Hfpa Is Now Gearing Up To Relaunch The Globes
The 2022 Golden Globe nominations will be announced at the Beverly Hilton on Monday, December 13th, 2021. In the run-up to the announcement, newly elected HFPA president Helen Hoehne gave an interview to Vanity Fair in which she emphasized the work that had been done.
This is the new HFPA 2.0,” she said, outlining changes which include the addition of a diversity officer and people of color on the board of directors, adding 21 new HFPA members including six Black journalists, and a five-year partnership with the NAACP. A major priority, she said, has been rethinking how HFPA members are chosen, and how the group is managed and overseen.
But many in Hollywood feel that forging ahead with the 2022 Globes is a mistake, and suggests that the reform process has been rushed. “I think the industry feels like, Okay, do the work, and lets talk about it next season youre welcome to choose your winners this year, but were not going to participate,'” one studio source told VF.

Who Is Boycotting The Golden Globes
The awards’ usual broadcaster NBC and Dick Clark Productions announced that while they were in support of the reform, they would not be broadcasting the 2022 ceremony. In a statement, NBC said that while the changes take place, “we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”
Times Up and over 100 PR firms wrote an open letter to the HFPA and criticized the reforms for a “lack of specifics” and claimed the changes wouldn’t be made in time to impact the next cycle of the Golden Globes.
Netflix, and WarnerMedia all followed suit and announced they would stop working with the HFPA until the reforms were made.
Supporting the boycotts, Deadline reported that Tom Cruise was returning the three Golden Globe Awards he’d won for his work on Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia.
While the nominations were live-streamed and announced by Snoop Dogg and the HFPA President Helen Hoehne in December, the ceremony will be held privately with no live stream or television broadcast. The winners will be announced via a press release afterwards.

Hfpa’s Plan To Address Its Issues Was Not Well Received
In May, the HFPA unveiled its plan for diversity and ethical reform.
