Concacaf Gold Cup Schedule Released
The full schedule for this summer’s 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup is out, as per a Thursday release from the confederation.
The tournament will be played in 11 cities across eight different US metropolitan areas, with the final taking place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on August 1.
âWe are extremely pleased to confirm the schedule and venues for this summerâs Concacaf Gold Cup, which promises to be a celebration of football in our great region,â Concacaf president and FIFA vice president Victor Montagliani said in Thursday’s release. â2021 is Concacafâs 60th anniversary year and we look forward with great anticipation to watching the best menâs national teams in our confederation compete for the Gold Cup title. With an exciting new format and the prospect of welcoming passionate fans to the stadiums for these compelling matchups, I canât wait for the football to begin on July 2nd and to crown a champion in Las Vegas on August 1.”
The twelve national teams that qualified through their Concacaf Nations League performances will compete in the Preliminary Round from July 2-6 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to determine the final three Group Stage teams.
The Group Stage will run from July 10-20. The 12 qualified nations, the AFC Asian Cup Champions Qatar and the three Prelims winners were also drawn in September 2020 into four groups. At the end of the Group Stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Quarterfinals.
Where Will The Next World Cup Be Held
Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup. It will be the first time a Middle East country has hosted the event. It will span through eight new stadiums in Qatar. There have been 11 stadiums used in this year’s Cup.
It’s worth noting that the World Cup in Qatar has been plagued by controversy almost since the moment it was announced. An Amnesty International report alleged human rights violations by companies constructing the new stadiums. Those allegations arrived after an initial wave of criticism about working conditions and worker deaths. Since that Amnesty report, conditions have improved.
The Qatar bid has also been embroiled in a bribery scandal. Widespread investigations into corruption at FIFA included allegations that bribes were paid to members of FIFA’s 22-person executive committee. The allegations of bribery have been denied, and a FIFA investigation exonerated the Qatar bid. However, there are ongoing federal investigations in three countries, reports Bloomberg.

Mexico 1 United States 0
And last but not least, the most expected game of the tournament. Mexico defeated the United States 1-0 with a goal scored by Uriel Antuna on March 24 at the Estadio Jalisco. Lozano’s side finished at the top of the Group A with perfect score in the 2021 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship
Cheltenham Festival Column: David Ord’s Gold Cup Fancy
A visit to Ireland leaves our man reaching for his Rick Stein recipe book and fancying a new horse for the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Its the unexpected things you take away from the Cheltenham stable visits that stay with you.
On Monday our weary team at Nicky Hendersons braved Storm Eunice in a local Travelodge, fighting off the perils of an unsealed window with only a four pack of lager snared from a local garage, for sustenance.
And yet even after that they were so invigorated by the words of the master of Seven Barrows the following morning that they were talking of backing Epatante for the Unibet Champion Hurdle.
In the words of Jamie Lawson, I wasnt expecting that.
Nor was I expecting the procrastination of a press colleague when asked to choose between Hake and Belly Pork at Punchestown on Wednesday to be rewarded with both landing on his plate.
Im not sure Rick Stein would have smothered the fish in pork gravy but it seemed to work for the weary scribe.
Nor was I expecting to leave Closutton thinking Tornado Flyer might win the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup. But I did. And I blame a trio of Mullins for that.
Willie was first up, showing genuine bemusement at the suggestion in some quarters that the Ryanair might be a better fit for the King George hero.
It could do Willie. I remember Kicking King defying a tipsy Santa and a strong field at Kempton to win the same race. He wouldnt stay at Cheltenham they said. He did.
I remember that well.

“All Things ” by Canadian musicians Widelife and Simone Denny, and “Cool” by Irish singer-songwriter Samantha Mumba, served as the two official songs of the tournament. Mumba’s first singles “Baby Come on Over” and “Gotta Tell You” were initially selected but were replaced as Mumba’s previous label Polydor rejected the usage.
“Glorious” by English-Canadian girl group All Saints served as the official anthem of the tournament.
“Fútbol a la Gente” by Puerto Rican singer Guaynaa and Mexican cumbia group Los Ángeles Azules, and “Pa’lante” by Colombian singer Lao Ra and Dominican DJ Happy Colors, served as the two official Spanish-language songs of the tournament, the former being selected by Univision as part of their coverage.
“Juega” was the official Spanish anthem, by Colombian duo Cali y El Dandee featuring Jamaican singer Charly Black.

What Do People Do
Many people travel to Charlottetown, PEI, from across Canada and from the United States to attend the parade and experience the activities during Old Home Week. The event has a different theme each year.
The parade consists of marching bands from the Maritimes, Quebec and sometimes the United States. There are more than 50 floats, giant helium-filled character balloons and many horse, car, and clown entries. Many businesses, communities and organizations enter floats of every size, shape, and complexity in the parade that is later awarded on different criteria, such as the most humorous float and the best overall float.
Migrant Workers Slavery Allegations And Deaths
The issue of migrant workers’ rights also attracted attention, with a 2013 investigation by The Guardian newspaper claiming that many workers were denied food and water, had their identity papers taken away from them, and that they were not paid on time or at all, making some of them in effect slaves. The Guardian estimated that, by the time the competition would be held, without reforms of the kafala system, out of the 2 million-strong migrant workforce up to 4,000 workers could die due to lax safety and other causes. These claims were based upon the fact that 522 Nepalese workers and over 700 Indian workers had died since 2010, when Qatar’s bid as World Cup’s host had been won, about 250 Indian workers dying each year. Given that there were half a million Indian workers in Qatar, the Indian government said that was quite a normal number of deaths.
In 2015, a crew of four journalists from the BBC were arrested and held for two days after they attempted to report on the condition of workers in the country. The reporters had been invited to visit the country as guests of the Government of Qatar.
In February 2019, Amnesty International questioned whether Qatar would complete the promised labour reforms before the start of the World Cup, a sentiment that FIFA backed. Amnesty International found that abuses were still occurring despite the nation taking some steps to improve labour rights.

How The Format Will Change For Future World Cups
There has been interest in raising the number of teams that qualify for the tournament from 32 to 48 starting with the 2022 World Cup. However, the chances of that are basically nil, according to a CTV report. It’s more likely that the first tournament featuring 48 qualifying teams will be the joint North American tournament in 2026.

Robbie Power Set To Keep Ride On Defending Champion Minella Indo In Gold Cup
Robbie Power is “highly likely” to keep the ride on Minella Indo in next month’s Cheltenham Gold Cup, according to trainer Henry de Bromhead.
Stable jockey Rachael Blackmore put her faith in A Plus Tard in last year’s Gold Cup and looks sure to do likewise this time around, with the runaway Betfair Chase winner 3-1 favourite with most firms and just 5-2 with bet365 for the Boodles-sponsored showpiece.
Jack Kennedy proved to be the most able of deputies on Minella Indo last year, but he was claimed by Gordon Elliott to ride Delta Work in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase and again in the Irish Gold Cup and, given his main employer is responsible for five of the 25 entries in the Gold Cup, he is likely to be required by the stable.
Power teamed up with Minella Indo for the first time in the Irish Gold Cup, in which the nine-year-old bounced back to form with a much-improved effort to finish second to Conflated, and De Bromhead is happy for the partnership to continue.
The trainer said: “It’s highly likely that Robbie will ride him. If Jack suddenly became available I suppose there would be a chance he could ride, but it looks like Robbie is in pole position. I thought Robbie got on really well with Indo at Leopardstown and I was thrilled with the way it went.”
After disappointing in the King George at Christmas, Minella Indo looked more like himself at Leopardstown this month and is now no bigger than 5-1 to defend his crown.
