What To Do In Golden Co

Don't Miss

Picnic In Parfet Park

Main Street USA: Welcome to Golden, CO by OPEN Forum

If you like the sound of the Clear Creek Trail youll probably also enjoy a visit to Parfet Park. Adjacent to both Clear Creek and Washington Ave, Parfet Park is the best place to hang out in the nice weather.

With picture-perfect views and seasonal events, grab some takeout food or make up a picnic to enjoy in the park. Locals Tip: If visiting in August, plan your visit on a Friday and take advantage of music and movie nights in the park. Its one of the most unique things to do in Golden CO in the summer.

Plan Some Water Activities

Clear Creek isnt just for walking alongside, they do white water rafting tours as well as tubing. Rent or buy a tube in town, and walk to one end to start your float down the creek for at least an hour of fun.

Check out Golden River Sports for kayak lessons or rentals to brave the whitewater rapids. Even if you dont want to participate, you can watch some of the more seasoned pros from the Clear Creek walk.

Walk The Clear Creek Path

Affectionately referred to as the heart of Golden, Clear Creek has been essential to Golden since the city was founded. In fact, its the only water Coors will ever use to brew their beer! It also provides a myriad of outdoor recreation opportunities for kayakers, fisherman, runners and more. And its beautiful to boot!

Walking along the Clear Creek path is easy, but a beautiful way to see more of the natural landscape in Golden. Walking along the tree-lined creek, with sounds of the bubbling water is the perfect way to enjoy a sunny afternoon walk. Just be sure to follow the golden rule and help protect and preserve this incredible resource.

Lookout Mountain Nature Center And Preserve

Forming part of the foothills of the mighty Rocky Mountains, Lookout Mountain is located just 12 miles from downtown Denver, making it a popular destination for day trips out of the city. A good place to start your tour is the Lookout Mountain Nature Center, where you can view several interactive exhibits that will give you a good overview of the 110-acre Lookout Mountain Preserve. You can explore the preserve on foot along a network of hiking trails that meander through scenic ponderosa pine forests and pretty meadows, which are home to several species of wildlife including black bears, bobcats, mountain lions, mule deer, and elk. There are several scenic spots perfect for a picnic and the trail is suitable for snowshoers and cross-country skiers in winter.

Do Some Brewery Hopping

Goldens most famous brewery may be Coors but it is definitely not the only one, and it is definitely not the best. For a small place, Golden is home to a lot of breweries so if you love beer as I do, you definitely have to visit at least a couple of them.

As well as serving excellent quality beer, the other thing that is great about Goldens breweries is that most of them are within walking distance of each other, so if you are staying in or near downtown Golden, you dont have to worry about drinking and driving.

My absolute favorite is New Terrain Brewing Company, which is a little out of town but so, so worth it. I would recommend driving there first for one of their flights in their sunny beer garden and maybe lunch at one of the two rotating food trucks, then drive back to your accommodation downtown to walk to more.

The best breweries in downtown Golden are Mountain Toad Brewing and Golden City Brewery, and I also like Barrels and Bottles Brewery and Cannonball Creek Brewing Company. The brand new Eddy Taproom and Hotel is also a great spot with views over town and a great beer and cocktail menu.

Hopping between these breweries on a sunny day with friends is one of the absolute best things to do in Golden CO!

Play On The River: White Water River Raft Or Kayak

The river provides easy access for almost any kind of river sport from kayaking, canoeing and tubing to stand-up paddleboarding at Clear Creek Whitewater Park.

In fact, TravelingMom Susie Kellogg says, In addition to the beauty that surrounds Golden, it is a water lovers dream. As we spend the majority of our summer months on the river, you have it on good authority that Golden Co has something for everyone, from beginner to expert, to enjoy the water.

Sample Some Local Brews

Denver is all about craft beers and the experimental flavors that distinguish these brews from your typical mass-produced beer. The city is stocked full of craft breweries, so there is no shortage of choice, but in LoDo, youll find a concentration of good places to visit.

When the craft beer revolution started to take off, LoDo was at the center and Denver quickly came to be known as the Napa Valley of Craft Beer! Most brewpubs in the city offer tasters of the various ales, lagers and pilsners on sale, and a hearty meal for when hunger strikes.

Each craft brewery has a different style that reflects the origins or inspiration for their continued love of beer.

Take A Day Trip To Explore More Of Colorado

While theres plenty of things to do in Golden to keep you busy, you may want to experience a little bit more of what Colorado has to offer! And Goldens location makes it easy to expand your Colorado horizons and take a day trip.

Of course you can spend more time in the big city and explore nearby Denver, a mere 20-30 minute drive to the east of Golden. Buy Local At The Golden Farmers Market

I love a Farmers Market and always try to catch them when I am on the road because its a great way to get a feel for the community of a place, as well as supporting local businesses and farmers, and getting to sample delicious local produce and foodstuffs.

The Golden Farmers Market is on a Saturday and every time I have visited it is always bustling with locals and visitors. Grab a coffee, wander the food and art stalls, enjoy the live music, and treat yourself to breakfast or lunch from one of the food vendors.

Weekend In Golden Colorado Day 3

Breakfast

Start your final day with a great bagel from Woodgrain Bagel & Deli located on 12th Street in a food hall called the Tributary that just opened in August 2019. Eat it inside, outside, or take it to go. Adventure awaits.

Red Rocks Amphitheater

Its time to make the short 15-minute drive over to Red Rocks. Maybe you have heard of it. If not, you wont ever forget it. It is one of the grandest, most awe-inspiring, natural amphitheaters in the world. Its THE place to see concerts, Easter morning services, and yoga sessions. A visit is another one of the essential things to do in Golden. Just walking up and down the steps will afford much exercise.

Take 6th Avenue east and turn right onto Heritage Road. Go through three roundabouts. Heritage Road becomes West Colfax Avenue, i.e., US40. US40 was the main road before the massive I-70 highway dug through the mountains. At the intersection for the I-70 interchange, choose to go underneath the freeway which becomes County Road 93. In less than two minutes, youll see signs for Red Rocks. Keep going and take Entrance 2. Follow the road to the top. Youll pass through a hole in the rock. Keep going a little further, and you will end at a small parking lot. From here, you can easily walk to the top of the amphitheater avoiding all the steps. Enjoy the grandiose views amongst the spectacular red rocks.

Boettcher Mansion Golden Colorado

You’ll find the historic 100-year-old Boettcher Mansion in a quiet and secluded setting in the lovely Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve. The lovely old residence was built in 1917 using timber and stone, most of which was sourced on site. Originally intended to be the summer getaway of prominent Denver businessman Charles Boettcher, the home was certainly opulent, and the style incorporated the best of both English and American Arts and Crafts elements. Today, the mansion is mainly used as an event venue, but most of the original rooms have been carefully maintained in their original state.
