The 78th annual Golden Globe Awards will take place live on Sunday from both New York City and Los Angeles.
The 78th Golden Globes will kick off a very socially distanced 2021 awards season. While award ceremonies have taken on a different look during the pandemic, leaving more room for the unpredictable, there are still some things we can be certain of for the big night this Sunday.
What time are the Golden Globes?
The Golden Globes will be airing tonight, Sunday, Feb. 28, and begin at 8 p.m. ET. The awards ceremony usually lasts about three hours.

Also different this time around is the controversy swirling around organizer the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which has come under fire for its lack of diversity in its membership and recent media reports about its perks and practices. The HFPA has said it will address the diversity issue during Sundays show, but its likely Fey and Poehler or maybe even presenters and winners might weigh in on the issue.
Tonights ceremony will eventually unveil winners in 14 film and 11 TV categories, in addition to honoring Jane Fonda with the annual Cecil B. DeMille Award and Norman Lear with the Carol Burnett Award. Netflix dominated the nominations with 42 going into the night, with Mank and The Crown scoring the most noms overall with six apiece.

As outlined in The Times investigation, the HFPA is facing renewed scrutiny over its 87-person membership and fresh allegations of self-dealing and ethical lapses. Our report found that the organization has no Black members, which partially explains the puzzling nominations each year and the oversights in this years crop of nominees.
The 2021 nominees excluded this years Black-led potential Oscar best-picture contenders, including Da 5 Bloods, Judas and the Black Messiah and Ma Raineys Black Bottom. And thats even with Da 5 Bloods director Spike Lees two children being named Golden Globe Ambassadors. Awk-ward.
The organization said the perception that many members are not serious journalists is outdated and unfair and that it is committed to addressing the lack of Black members.
Asked about those criticisms, a representative for the HFPA said: We do not control the individual votes of our members, adding, We seek to build cultural understanding through film and TV and recognize how the power of creative storytelling can educate people around the world to issues of race, representation and orientation.
The investigation analyzes how and explains why the groups role in awards season is so big hint: money and how that came to be. It also sheds light on how one lavish TV show in particular, Emily in Paris, was regaled with so much love.

Actors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted a bicoastal Golden Globes Sunday that was postponed for nearly two months because of the coronavirus pandemic. Fey appeared from New York City’s Rainbow Room, and Poehler was at The Beverly Hilton in Southern California, a region that was suffering from a post-holiday surge in COVID-19 cases in January, when the awards show is usually held.
