Naming The Vegas Golden Knights

NHL Game Highlights | Golden Knights vs. Wild – May 3, 2021

When the Las Vegas owners were awarded the franchise, they preferred to name the new hockey team the Black Knights, after Foleys alma mater. But this was not possible due to the Black Knights being associated with West Point Military Academy. Other problems with naming occurred because of various trademarks held by other sporting teams. Gold was added to the name in reference to the precious metal which Nevada is the number one state in the country for production. After another legal battle with the United States Army, the name Golden Knights was included in a trademark coexistence agreement with the exhibition sky diving team of West Point Military Academy. The team did not include Las Vegas and only Vegas in the name because locals refer to Sin City simply as Vegas.

What Are The Amenities Like At Vegas Golden Knights Games

With the large section of eateries and beverage stands, line ups were not an issue on my visit. On top of that, there are self-serve market type areas for even faster service.

Other interesting and convenient touches include plenty of bathrooms, bars, lounges, breastfeeding stations, and plenty of cell phone charging stations. The chargers are not surprising given it is, after all, the T-Mobile Arena.

Defence: Oilers Vs Golden Knights

The Golden Knights six defencemen will be the same group as they iced last season, with Shea Theodore and Alex Pietrangelo leading the way. Quietly doing great work on the blue line is Alec Martinez, a stud defensively, and posted 32 points, outperforming Pietrangelo.

Theodore is a dark horse in the Norris Trophy race, and if his progression continues, should play even better than he did last season when he was on a 65-point pace over an 82-game season.

The Oilers bring in 3-time Stanley Cup winner Duncan Keith, Cody Ceci, and promote Evan Bouchard to the NHL in a full-time role. They parted with Caleb Jones, Adam Larsson, and Ethan Bear.

Keith is a clear upgrade to Jones, who can be compared as they were included in the same trade. Keith brings experience that Jones didnt possess, a key part of what the Oilers were missing from their team the past couple of seasons on the back-end. Keiths role will be reduced in Edmonton and allow him to have more favourable matchups and not play as much, while as an Oiler, Jones struggled to even stay in the lineup for a significant amount of time.

Cody Ceci isnt as physical as Adam Larsson, he moves the puck better.

Golden Knights’ Brayden Mcnabb: Injured In Preseason Opener

McNabb didn’t finish Sunday’s preseason game against the Sharks, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

The Golden Knights were without McNabb, Shea Theodore and Mark Stone by the end of the night. Further updates on their statuses should surface prior to the team’s next preseason tilt, Tuesday against the Avalanche. McNabb was tripped down on his final shift, so his absence is likely linked to that play.

Golden Knights’ Robin Lehner: Starting Versus Kings On Thursday

Bring on the Kings: Golden Knights must play fast, not ...

Lehner will protect the road goal in Thursday’s preseason game versus the Kings, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.

Lehner is set to get into his first preseason game of the year. It’s likely just a tune-up for the 30-year-old, who figures to receive a noticeable majority of the starts for the Golden Knights in 2021-22. He had a 2.29 GAA and a .913 save percentage with a 13-4-2 record across 19 games last year.

Golden Knights Get Chance To Rest Recover Before Next Series

The Golden Knights, who eliminated the Chicago Blackhawks in five games, wont know their next opponent for several days and wont play again until Tuesday at the earliest.

The Golden Knights became the first team to advance to the NHLs conference semifinals and now have time to rest and recover from their series against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Knights, who eliminated the Blackhawks in five games with Tuesdays 4-3 victory in Edmonton, Alberta, wont know their next opponent for several days and wont play again until next Tuesday at the earliest. That will give them time to reflect on what worked and what didnt in their first playoff series win since May 2018.

Here are three broader takeaways from series:

1. Lehner is No. 1, for now

Robin Lehner started four of the five games against the Blackhawks.

Whether fans like it or not, that makes coach Pete DeBoers goalie hierarchy pretty clear for now. Marc-Andre Fleury will still play. He might even regain the starting job if Lehner struggles.

But for now, its Lehners crease.

I thought he found a way to win us games, DeBoer said. It wasnt an easy series for either of our goaltenders, and I thought they both performed really well.

Fleury was great in Game 3. He allowed one goal and earned his 80th playoff win, tied for sixth all time with Ken Dryden.

Still, DeBoer went back to Lehner in Games 4 and 5. He trusted the trade deadline acquisition against his former team.

2. Depth is showing

Predictions: Who Will Score The Kraken’s First Goal

So close. I picked Brandon Tanev to score the first goal in Kraken history in today’s oddly specific predictions post, and he gets a first-period breakaway. Nifty move too, but Robin Lehner pokes it away and it’s still 2-0.

Gentille: Ill go with Jared McCann. Assuming he watched the Penguins middle-sixers pot all those goals in the first game and got jealous.

McIndoe: Behind the scenes, I picked like four different guys, including McCann, and everyone kept popping up on the COVID list.

Golden Knights’ Brett Howden: Attends Afternoon Session

Howden skated at the Golden Knights’ afternoon session of Thursday’s practice, David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Howden was traded from the Rangers to the Golden Knights in July after posting just seven points in 42 games last season. The 23-year-old will likely compete for a bottom-six role in training camp, and his ability to play either center or wing should help his cause for making the Opening Night roster.

Donato Goes Down In History

And there it is. The Seattle Kraken are on the board, as Ryan Donato knocks home a rebound as a power play expires. Its not the prettiest goal youll ever see, but its the best in franchise history. And it keeps this a game, as the Kraken stay within range at 3-1 midway through the second.

Gentille: Ryan Donatos former claim to fame was as the best NHL player to share a name with a pizza chain. He has now upgraded.

Golden Knights To Play Blackhawks To Open Nhl Playoffs

The Golden Knights won two of three regular-season games against the Blackhawks, who are led by former Hart Trophy winner Patrick Kane and center Jonathan Toews.

The Golden Knights reward for earning the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference: Facing the No. 12 Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the NHL playoffs in Edmonton, Alberta.

Chicago had the second-worst points percentage among the teams that returned to play and was last in the Central Division when the NHL season paused because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Blackhawks even shipped out players at the trade deadline, sending defenseman Erik Gustafsson to Calgary and goaltender Robin Lehner to the Knights .

Still, Chicago rallied during the qualifying round to defeat Edmonton in four games in the Oilers building. Its a team that has top-end talent, plus a mix of youth and playoff experience. Whether it has enough depth to hang with the Knights remains to be seen.

I thought we got better as the year went on, Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton said Saturday. Our team, there was a transformation from training camp to March, and then all those guys got a little break to reflect on the season theyd gone through, and theyve taken another step. For me, thats probably the biggest reason were a better team now.

It starts from the top with him, left wing Brandon Saad said of Toews, the teams captain.

What About The Goaltending Decision

Going to a Golden Knights Hockey Game in Las Vegas? Read ...

Looking at the goaltending situation in Vegas is intriguing. What NHL team wouldnt want and Robin Lehner as their guys protecting the net? Yet, with a combined cap hit of $12 million between the two of them, somethings got to give. Do you give up on Fleury who just took home his first Vezina Trophy, or hope that Lehner earns his $5 million AAV deal through the 2024-25 season? While the pair was quite effective, again that pesky salary cap issue is biting at the Vegas franchises core. There have been rumours that if Fleury leaves hed love to go back to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now wouldnt that be special?

Lehner seems solid and yet losing Fleury would be a bummer. He had a classic season with a 26-10 record including a sparkling 1.98 goals-against-average and a .928 save percentage. That included six shutouts and clutch wins when the teams needed them. Mark Madden of Triblive.com thinks that the Penguins should go after Fleury whose contract expires after next season. He thinks Fleury may be open to going back to Pittsburgh and the Pens should only need to give up a third-round pick for him. Of course, for that to happen the Golden Knights will need to retain up to half of Fleurys contract. That may not happen. Without Fleury, what would the Vegas Golden Knights future look like?

Seattle just has no answer for this Vegas top line, and defenseman Nicolas Hague finishes a nifty feed from Mark Stone to make it 3-0.

Seattle fans are either going to get to enjoy a hell of a comeback, or get their first taste of NHL disappointment. Might as well get it out of the way, guys, there’s a lot more where that came from, said the Leafs fan.

Golden Knights Laurent Brossoit: Draws Start Friday

Brossoit will patrol the crease in Fridays preseason tilt against the Kings, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Brossoit will make another preseason appearance as he gets ready for the start for the 2021-22 campaign. The 28-year-old wont get many looks this season behind Robin Lehner barring any injury.

The best place to park when going to watch the Vegas Golden Knights is the New York-New York Arena Event Parking Garage. Situated next door to T-Mobile Arena the parking garage is ideal but can be cumbersome after the game finishes when everyone is trying to exit. Other parking options nearby include event parking garages at the Park MGM and Aria. If you dont like to drive, then try an Uber or Lyft to get to the arena.

What Channel Is Kraken Vs Golden Knights On Today Time Tv Schedule For Nhl Return To Espn

Welcome to the NHL, Seattle!

The NHL’s newest team, the Kraken, will hit the ice in Las Vegas to take on the Golden Knights on opening night. Before things get underway at T-Mobile Arena, the Lightning will take on the Penguins in Florida. The games mark the return of ESPN as the league’s broadcaster.

What to expect from the Kraken in 2021-22 is anyone’s guess. Will they be like expansion teams of yore, who struggled mightily against the more established clubs? Or will they be more like their first opponent, the Golden Knights, who went to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural year? Time will tell but the team did make some big moves already including signing free agents Jaden Schwartz and Philipp Grubauer and naming Mark Giordano the franchise’s first captain.

NHL 2021-22: How to watch games | Opening games schedule

Golden Knights’ Mark Stone: Avoids Injury

Stone is practicing Tuesday and “appears to be fine,” Steve Carp of VegasHockeyNow.com reports.

Stone exited Sunday’s preseason game versus the Sharks after taking a puck to the ear, but it looks like he escaped that contest without suffering a significant injury. Stone won’t play in Tuesday’s preseason matchup with Colorado, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him return to Vegas’ lineup for Thursday’s preseason game versus LA.

Golden Knightsâ Max Pacioretty shows scoring touch on ...

Jonathan Marchessault becomes the first player taken in an expansion draft to score in a Seattle Kraken game.

Its 2-0 Vegas, theyre flying, and the arena is jumping. Man, do they look like theyre having fun in Vegas right now.

Gentille: Someone in the Seattle management box is thinking, Itd be nice if a team gave us a player like Marchessault for no reason.

McIndoe: It’s too bad Seattle wasn’t allowed to make any expansion draft trades like Vegas did.

Golden Knights Have Questions To Answer Before Eichel Debut

The Vegas Golden Knights and Jack Eichel always seemed like a perfect match. It all added up perfectly.

The Golden Knights are the most aggressive team in the league with roster moves, never meeting a blockbuster trade or free agent signing they did not like. They have set the bar at a Stanley Cup and are willing to do whatever they have to do, no matter how cutthroat it is, to get there.

They also needed an impact player at center, probably the one weakness they have had during their first four years in the league.

Eichel, meanwhile, was desperate to get out of Buffalo, get to a contender and a team that would let him have his desired surgery.

On Thursday, after months of rumors and speculation and questions, the Sabres finally moved Eichel to the Golden Knights for Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch, and two draft picks.

We still do not know when Eichel will make his debut but there is hope that it could be sometime later this season. Before that can happen the Golden Knights have a few questions to answer.

What do they do about the salary cap when Eichel does return?

This is the elephant in the room here. The thing about blockbuster trades and free agent signings is that those players tend to make a lot of money, and salary cap space will disappear. Quickly. The Golden Knights are able to manage right now because Eichel , , and Max Pacioretty are all on long-term injured reserve and out of the lineup. William Karlsson is also sidelined for a few weeks.
