Evgenii Dadonov RW trade with Ottawa

Laurent Brossoit G signed as a free agent

    Star Players Should Be Bubble

You could hear a pin drop when captain Mark Stone took a puck to the face late in the first period. Lying on the ice for a good minute, Stone jumped back up and went back to the locker room on his own power.

DeBoer said Stone received stitches and was held out of the remainder of the game due to precautionary reasons.

Defensemen Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore also didnt finish out the game and DeBoer did not have an update on what nicked the top-four blueliners.

You run into the problem with star players playing in the preseason, especially early on, but you understand the reasoning. You want every player from the time you cut down the roster at the final week to be as well-rounded in the system as possible. But never should it be at the expense of losing your top forward and two of your best defensemen.

Ultimately, you hope that its cautionary reasons, but this is the worst-case scenario you run into with two weeks from the season opener.

The Golden Knights will continue the exhibition slate on Tuesday at home against the Colorado Avalanche.

Golden Knights’ Robin Lehner: Starting Versus Kings On Thursday

Views from Vegas as the Golden Knights play 1st home game ...

Lehner will protect the road goal in Thursday’s preseason game versus the Kings, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.

Lehner is set to get into his first preseason game of the year. It’s likely just a tune-up for the 30-year-old, who figures to receive a noticeable majority of the starts for the Golden Knights in 2021-22. He had a 2.29 GAA and a .913 save percentage with a 13-4-2 record across 19 games last year.

Why Should Consider Going To A Hockey Game In Las Vegas

When Las Vegas was awarded an NHL team in 2016, I thought it was laughable. With , I thought the case of the Arizona Coyotes was all the proof you need to say hockey in the desert does not work.

But, as I thought about it more, hockey in Las Vegas would be no different than a Cirque du Soleil show or a resident performer filling seats at the end of their career. It would, at the very least, attract tons of visiting team fans. What better way for a Canadian bachelor party or fun escape from the November cold?

This brought up the question of having a local fanbase. The answer to this came quickly. During the Vegas Golden Knights inaugural season, they came within two games of hoisting the Stanley Cup. Not only did they fill seats, but the locals were into it. This definitely made me want to check out a hockey game in Las Vegas. With my love/hate Edmonton Oilers in town, I did just that.

Here are my takeaways and tips on going to a Golden Knights hockey game in Sin City.

    Logos Colors And Uniforms

The team’s primary logo is a barbute helmet, superimposed on a black and gold shield, with a V-shaped opening. The secondary logo is two crossing swords behind a red star, designed to resemble the star found on the landmark Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign.

The team’s primary color is steel gray, which is said to represent “strength and durability”. The other team colors are gold, red , and black .

The first uniforms in Golden Knights team history were unveiled publicly on June 20, 2017. Home uniforms are steel gray with black, gold and red stripes, while road uniforms are white with steel gray, gold and red stripes. Shoulders feature the alternate swords logo. On October 2, 2020, the Golden Knights introduced a gold alternate uniform, essentially a palette swap of the road uniforms with gold and white switching places. On February 11, 2021, the Golden Knights debuted shiny gold helmets as an alternate to their home gray helmets.

The Golden Knights also released a special “Reverse Retro” alternate uniform. Due to the team’s short history, the Golden Knights chose to honor the defunct International Hockey League‘s Las Vegas Thunder in creating the uniform, using a red base and featuring the “crossing swords” logo in front.

Golden Knights’ Shea Theodore: Deemed Day

Theodore is considered day-to-day with his undisclosed injury, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Theodore exited Sunday’s preseason game versus San Jose with an undisclosed issue. He won’t play in Tuesday night’s preseason contest against Colorado, but his day-to-day tag suggests he should be back on the ice sooner rather than later. The 26-year-old blueliner racked up eight goals and 42 points in just 53 games last campaign and should be able to produce double-digit goals and 50-plus points over the course of a full 82-game season in 2021-22.

    Vegas Golden Knights History

NHL Game Highlights | Golden Knights vs. Kings – Apr. 14, 2021

The Vegas Golden Knights were created in 2016 when the NHL awarded the franchise to billionaire businessman Bill Foley, a graduate of West Point Military Academy and the Maloof Family, the founders of the Palms Casino Resort. The team opened their first NHL campaign in 2017-2018 season becoming the first major professional sports franchise to compete in Las Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights play within the Pacific Division of the Western Conference against rivals like Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, and the Arizona Coyotes.

The first season for the Golden Knights was impressive. Sin City adhered to the team like glue and the Golden Knights played in the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season. They were led by outstanding play from several players who had been tossed aside by other teams in the NHL and were considered a team of misfits by the league. But to no avail, the Golden Knights played spectacular hockey in their first season which has since propelled the team into one of the most successful franchises in the NHL.

What Are The Amenities Like At Vegas Golden Knights Games

With the large section of eateries and beverage stands, line ups were not an issue on my visit. On top of that, there are self-serve market type areas for even faster service.

Other interesting and convenient touches include plenty of bathrooms, bars, lounges, breastfeeding stations, and plenty of cell phone charging stations. The chargers are not surprising given it is, after all, the T-Mobile Arena.

What To Wear When Attending A Game Or Practice:

Practices are cold. While some can get away with shorts and flip flops, most of us need a sweatshirt, pants, and closed toed shoes. VGK apparel is preferred, but youre fine in anything that doesnt represent a different hockey team. We also recommend a blanket to top the benches with. The benches are very cold and are not very comfortable. That extra padding makes a big difference.

Games at T-mobile are a little warmer than practices because you arent as close to the glass and you are surrounded by thousands of people.; A Jersey or sweatshirt is best.; I like to wear my jersey and bring a sweatshirt just in case.; During the winter, its a good idea to bring gloves as well, in case you are standing outside for an extended period of time. In general, the colder is it outside, the colder it will be inside. LAYERS are the best way to go.

Make sure you wear closed toed shoes.; You may be able to handle the cold on your feet, but there are steep stairs and lots of people holding beer, so YOU decide if you want to risk it with sandals or high heels.

Also, make sure you wear VGK apparel or colors .; You are there to support the team, save your favorite blue top for another night.; If you dont own any Knights apparel, check to see what the colors are for the opposing team so you at least dont look like you are supporting them .

Golden Knights’ Brett Howden: Attends Afternoon Session

Views from Vegas as the Golden Knights play 1st home game ...

Howden skated at the Golden Knights’ afternoon session of Thursday’s practice, David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Howden was traded from the Rangers to the Golden Knights in July after posting just seven points in 42 games last season. The 23-year-old will likely compete for a bottom-six role in training camp, and his ability to play either center or wing should help his cause for making the Opening Night roster.

Golden Knights’ Nicolas Roy: Waiting On Test Results

Roy , who took a cross check to his back during Thursday’s preseason game versus LA, is awaiting test results to determine the severity of his injury, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Another update on Roy, who picked up 15 points through 50 games last season, should surface once the Golden Knights receive his test results. The 24-year-old forward won’t play Friday against the Kings, and at this point he should probably be considered a longshot for Tuesday’s preseason matchup with the Avalanche as well.

Golden Knights’ Mark Stone: Exits After Taking Puck To Ear

Stone left Sunday’s preseason game against the Sharks after taking a puck to the ear in the first period and won’t return, David Schoen of The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The severity of Stone’s injury is not yet known, as it’s entirely possible that his exit was precautionary. He lay down on the ice in the immediate aftermath of getting hit by the puck but went to the locker room under his own power. The Golden Knights will likely deliver an update on his injury prior to Tuesday’s preseason game against Colorado.

Golden Knights’ Brayden Mcnabb: Focused On Opening Night

NHL Game Highlights | Wild vs. Golden Knights, Game 5 – May 24, 2021

McNabb won’t play in Friday’s preseason clash with the Kings but is expected to be ready for Opening Night against Seattle on Oct. 12, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Over the course of his nine-year NHL career, McNabb has reached the 20-point threshold just once back in 2014-15. Given his limited offensive upside, few fantasy players should be impacted even if McNabb does miss some regular-season action.

Paul Cotter Doing Paul Cotter Things

It happens nearly every year since Cotter was drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 draft. He always finds a way to make a play or two in camp to make you wonder if it translates to game action.

It did on Sunday. Cotter scored three minutes into the second period off a backhand feed from Jack Dugan to cut the San Jose lead to 2-1. On his next shift, Dugan sidestepped Sharks defenseman Brent Burns along the end boards and set up another dangerous opportunity.

Cotter played at third-line left wing with Brett Howden and Peyton Krebs and skated for 15:35.

I think theres a lot of critiquing that needs to be done, Cotter said. I think defensively, just shape up a few things. You watch these older guys like Stone and Pacioretty, a lot of the time theyre not doing something crazy, just being at the right spots and knowing what to do with the puck at the right time.

With the talk of guys that could challenge for a bottom-six role, while ambitious, Cotter is a name that has to be considered. Hes always seemed to have solid offensive instincts, whether its knowing where to go to set up shop or making plays at the blue line to force a scoring chance the other way.

Cotter will likely end up in Henderson when alls said and done, but hes something that the organization should feel comfortable with in his development.

Golden Knights’ Nolan Patrick: Signs Two

Patrick signed a two-year, $2.4 million contract extension with the Golden Knights on Sunday.

Patrick was dealt to Vegas in mid-July, and his extension will keep him with the club for at least two more years. The 23-year-old returned to the ice last year after he missed the 2019-20 campaign due to health issues, and he recorded four goals and nine points across 52 games with the Flyers.

Brossoit will patrol the crease in Friday’s preseason tilt against the Kings, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Brossoit will make another preseason appearance as he gets ready for the start for the 2021-22 campaign. The 28-year-old won’t get many looks this season behind Robin Lehner barring any injury.

Golden Knights’ Brayden Mcnabb: Injured In Preseason Opener

McNabb didn’t finish Sunday’s preseason game against the Sharks, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

The Golden Knights were without McNabb, Shea Theodore and Mark Stone by the end of the night. Further updates on their statuses should surface prior to the team’s next preseason tilt, Tuesday against the Avalanche. McNabb was tripped down on his final shift, so his absence is likely linked to that play.

    What About The Goaltending Decision

Looking at the goaltending situation in Vegas is intriguing. What NHL team wouldnt want and Robin Lehner as their guys protecting the net? Yet, with a combined cap hit of $12 million between the two of them, somethings got to give. Do you give up on Fleury who just took home his first Vezina Trophy, or hope that Lehner earns his $5 million AAV deal through the 2024-25 season? While the pair was quite effective, again that pesky salary cap issue is biting at the Vegas franchises core. There have been rumours that if Fleury leaves hed love to go back to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now wouldnt that be special?

Lehner seems solid and yet losing Fleury would be a bummer. He had a classic season with a 26-10 record including a sparkling 1.98 goals-against-average and a .928 save percentage. That included six shutouts and clutch wins when the teams needed them. Mark Madden of Triblive.com thinks that the Penguins should go after Fleury whose contract expires after next season. He thinks Fleury may be open to going back to Pittsburgh and the Pens should only need to give up a third-round pick for him. Of course, for that to happen the Golden Knights will need to retain up to half of Fleurys contract. That may not happen. Without Fleury, what would the Vegas Golden Knights future look like?
