Between Amazon Prime giving us Bob RossThe Joy of Painting and Julia Childs The French Chef, and Netflix streaming the cult game show Supermarket Sweep, weve had plenty of choices when it comes to quarantine binge-watching. Disney+, of course, got in on the party by releasing Hamilton more than a year before the scheduled date, and now theyre adding another show to their lineup thats sure to have us parked on the couch again. Yep, the Golden Girls are making their way to the streaming service!

The Queen Mother was a huge fan of The Golden Girls and requested that the cast and crew put on a live version as part of the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium in 1988 . Princess Diana also reportedly spent an afternoon with Freddie Mercury, drinking champagne in front of reruns of The Golden Girls, while Rue McClanahan wrote in her memoir that Sir Laurence Olivier was also fan of the series. This morning , we attended an online press conference for the soon-to-launch Star, the new brand coming to Disney+ on Tuesday, 23 February.
We have previously written about the new and classic shows coming to the Star brand at launch, but part of today’s press conference focused on the future of Disney+ and Star, and what to expect throughout the rest of 2021.
Obviously a lot of it is still pretty top secret, but they did confirm some new details, such as X-Men: First Class and Logan arriving later in 2021, Kingsman: The Secret Service being made available at launch, and movies like Can You Ever Forgive Me?, The Beach, Taken, and Enemy Of The State arriving very soon after launch.
There was also discussion about original Star content, that will only be available in Ireland and the UK on the new Disney+ brand, such as Only Murders In The Building, a new comedy series starring legendary comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short, as well as The Old Man, a thriller series starring Jeff Bridges and produced by Jon Watts , and Dopesick, a new drama series starring Michael Keaton and Rosario Dawson, directed by Barry Levinson , which focuses on the Opioid addiction in the States.

While he couldn’t go into too much detail on specifics, he did announce that the show will be made available this summer.

Every Episode Of The Golden Girls Will Stream On Disney+ This Summer
Disney has confirmed that every episode ever of The Golden Girls will start streaming on Disney+ this summer.
Every single episode of The Golden Girls is coming to Disney+ in 2021. During a Disney+ press event to promote the launch of the international service Star on Wednesday, several announcements were made about the House of Mouse’s plans for the streamer. With Disney+ eventually set to serve as the “exclusive streaming home” for Disney’s iconic catalog, licensing deals will start flipping over to the streamer as it continues to grow its base of nearly 100 million subscribers.
Star will be a hub within Disney+ offering movies and television content intended for an adult audience. This also opens the door for many, many more titles to become available on the streamer. Luke Bradley-Jones, SVP of direct-to-consumer and general manager for Disney+ EMEA, singled out The Golden Girls in particular as one show in particular he’s worked hard on getting, confirming that the series will hit the streamer this year.
“I’ve been working hard on that. Coming this summer, you will have every season of The Golden Girls, every ever episode,” he said.
Of course, the news of The Golden Girls coming to Disney+ is getting a lot of subscribers pretty excited. As one fan puts it in an amusing tweet, “Disney+ will soon have the original Muppet Show AND The Golden Girls so I guess it’s fine if lockdown never ends.”

All episodes of The Golden Girls comes to Disney Plus on July 2, so you can enjoy every minute of their fun life in Florida.

Where Was The Golden Girls Filmed
The show was shot entirely on a set and while there was a replica of the original house exterior built on the Disney lot in Orlando, it has long since been demolished.
The original home, used for exteriors only, does still exist although it is some way from the shows Malibu setting. The LA-based property went on the market last year for $3 million.

The Golden Girls Cast Betty White As Rose Nylund
Naive country girl Rose moves from tiny St Olaf, Minnesota to Miami after her husbands death and finds work at a grief counselling centre. In later seasons she becomes romantically involved with college professor Miles Webber, who eventually turns out to be on a witness protection programme.
Born in Illinois, Betty White grew up in California, and originally wanted to become a forest ranger. But at the time women werent allowed to be rangers, so she decided on a career in the performing arts. After being turned down by film studios for not being “photogenic”, she forged a career in radio before becoming a well-known face on TV entertainment shows and game shows. In her fun-loving 1954 series Life With Elizabeth, she plays the newlywed wife of Alvin . his series is currently available on Amazon Prime. She then landed roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Mamas Family and then The Golden Girls.

The Golden Girls lasted for seven seasons, running from 19851991 and clocking in at an impressive 180 episodes.
The show earned critical acclaim for its enlightened and positive attitude towards ageing, with star Betty White discussing that theme in a 1991 interview with NBCs TODAY.
I think its great, she said. You dont fall off the planet once youve passed a given age, you dont lose any of your sense of humour, you dont lose any of your zest for life or lust for life.
If you were a dull young person then youre going to be a dull old person, but I dont think just because the years go by that you have to be that way.

Lauper has been a regular guest star on TV series such as “Mad About You,” “Bones,” and the new “Magnum P.I.” She has also appeared in film and on stage, in addition to her long-lasting music career.

The Golden Girls Cast Bea Arthur As Dorothy Zbornak
In The Golden Girls, Dorothy was a recently divorced substitute teacher and voice of reason in the show ends up renting a room in the Miami home Blanche Devereaux. The series sees Dorothy have her fair share of romances, with a few of her suitors portrayed by well known actors, including Dick Van Dyke and Leslie Nielsen, who she ends up marrying in the final ever episode. Her ex-husband Stan also makes regular attempts to win her back.
Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, was born in New York, and joined the Marines before she became an actor. She began her career in the theatre before landing roles in TV, including the lead in 1970s sitcom Maude and a part in Star Wars Holiday Special. In 1985 she began playing Dorothy and stayed with the show for seven seasons. After The Golden Girls she had guest roles in shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm and Malcolm in the Middle, and made a return to Broadway.
What Is Cyndi Lauper Doing Nowadays
Nowadays, Lauper is still making music. Moreover, there was a recent reveal that she will be involved in an upcoming Netflix show, which should come as welcome news for her fans. In short, what happened is that Jane Lynch was speaking with the press when she revealed that her next show would be a Netflix show that would serve as a modern version of The Golden Girls. This makes sense because Lynch is closing in on the age of 60 while Lauper is already in her mid-60s, thus making them very well-suited for roles in such a show. Besides them, there will apparently be two other main roles that will have to be cast as well, meaning that it is still much too soon to be speculating about the full roster. However, it is interesting to note that the evidence suggests that Lynch will be co-writing the script for the show with Carol Leifer of Seinfeld and The Ellen Show fame because Leifer stated that she was working with both Lynch and Lauper a while ago.

Wealthy Southern belle Blanche works at an art museum and grew up as the apple of her fathers eye. Throughout the series Blanche has plenty of ups and downs with her four siblings spoilt youngest sister Virginia, eldest sister Charmaine, who ends up writing a sordid novel about Blanches sex life, big brother Tad, who has spent most of his life in a mental health hospital, and Clay, whos gay, which Blanche struggles to accept.

Known for her wisecracks, put-downs and brazen remarks, Dorothys mum Sophia was a favourite with the shows fans. Sophia initially moved into the Miami house after her Shady Pines retirement home was damaged in a fire. Born in Sicily she believes strongly in ancient Sicilian traditions, including the power of the “Sicilian curse”, which she often threatens to cast on Dorothy. There are also regular hints that she and her family have mafia connections.
Like her co-star Bea Arthur, Estelle was a New Yorker, who starred in various theatre plays before landing a role in Broadway show Torch Song Trilogy, playing Mrs Beckoff. It was this role that brought her to the attention of the creators of The Golden Girls who cast her as Dorothys fast-talking no-nonsense mother Sophia. Younger than her on-screen daughter, Estelle relied on wigs and heavy make-up to age her. While filming the Golden Girls she also appeared in Fantasy Island, Cagney and Lacey, Tootsie and Mask.

The Golden Girls Coming To Hulu

The Golden Girls are set to make their streaming debut on Hulu, it was announced on Saturday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena.
The popular sitcoms complete library will be available to stream, all in one place, starting Monday, Feb. 13 aka Galentines Day.
Golden Girls ran from 1985 to 1992 on NBC, amassing 11 total Emmy Awards, including one apiece for leads Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty.
Hulu also announced at TCA that it had closed a deal to stream ABCs black-ish, while renewing its deals to host Desperate Housewives, Private Practice and Body of Proof.

According to Lynch, it’s Netflix: “I pitched a show to Netflix and they bought it,” she told reporters after winning the Emmy for guest actress in a comedy . ” I don’t know if I can even tell you, but it’s with Cyndi Lauper, so there! We’ll see.”
Pressed to share some details about the show, Lynch added, “We’re our age, I’m almost 60 and she’s 65, and we’re looking for our next act, without ever having had husbands of children. And there will be two other people who haven’t been cast yet. But its kind of a ‘Golden Girls’ for today.”
