Do Gold And Silver Go Together

Don't Miss

Keep Trendier Metals On Low Commitment Pieces

Melted Gold,Platinum, and Silver together

I often get asked whether Im worried about using a lot of brass in my home because its trendy and the answer is no because Ive mostly kept it on low commitment pieces that would be easy to switch out.

For example, when planning our kitchen remodel I was tempted by a range with brass accents that I thought was stunning, but decided to stick with more traditional metals for our range and other big money items . I still brought some brass into our new space but only with our cabinet pulls, pendant lights, and a few accessories that wouldnt be too difficult or expensive to swap out if a new homeowner wasnt a brass lover:

Sources: Pendants | Large appliance pulls on drawers | Counter stools | | All other sources are in my kitchen reveal post

Did you notice I said Ive mostly kept it on low commitment pieces? One kinda higher commitment place where I brought in brass was with that I added throughout the first floor of our home:

It was love at first sight and theyre just SO me that I went for it I do keep resale in mind when decorating but I also have to follow my own heart in my own home!

When you think of mixing gold and silver jewelry together, you might think of a major fashion faux pas. However, wearing gold and silver tones together is a bold statement that says youre not afraid to mix and match. If you want to combine your gold and silver rings together, you can keep a few style guidelines in mind to make your jewelry stand out in the best way possible.

Create A Unique Combination

Creating the right mix is entirely subjective. There are no rules to follow here. The mixing style will vary depending on the occasion or the type of clothes you choose to wear on a particular day.

We have come with few ideas on how you can mix the jewelry based on the type of attire or event youre attending.

A simplistic look

For everyday office or for school, you would want something simple and comfy to wear. Our favorite combo is to wear a big dialed gold or silver watch along with a few dainty bracelets stacked together!

A traditional pattern

Charm bracelets are the most popular piece of jewelry when it comes to a traditional combo for the wrist.

Sterling silver charm bracelets with some large gold cuff bracelets in the middle are one of our favorite classic looks for the wrist.

For the neck, you can wear a beautiful gold-plated collar necklace or choker paired with some silver multi-stringed neckpiece.

If you are going for bold jewelry, we would recommend not to overdo with the outfit otherwise, your jewelry will not stand out.

A semi-formal style

For business meetings and finners, go for a semi-formal style. Your hand movements, while giving a presentation or talking to colleagues and business partners, will look better compared to the neckpieces.

A vintage or antique gold bracelet with a pearl in the middle can be your bridging piece. Add some silver cuff bracelets with those, and you have yourself the perfect jewelry mix for your semi-formal look.

Investors Shouldn’t Panic Over An Initial Drop In Gold Prices

Youll recall that gold did fall in the initial shock of the 2008 financial crisis. This recent, albeit memorable, instance is perhaps why many investors think gold will drop when the stock market does. But while the S& P continued to decline, gold rebounded and ended the year up 5.5 percent. Over the total 18-month stock market selloff, gold rose more than 25 percent. The lesson here is that, even if gold initially declines during a stock market collapse, one should not assume its down for the count. In fact, history says it might be a great buying opportunity.

Copper Coin And Aged Copper

Gold and Silver do go together. Keep Collection!

The shimmering brown of copper eventually turns to turquoise with the passing of time. With Copper Coin and Aged Copper, the two spectrums of copper can bridge the gap in years to form a stunning combination.

You can make your new designs look notably vintage with the right amount of tweaking. Aged Copper is of course a turquoise shade, so it easily conveys feelings of refreshment, calm, and serenity.

Copper Coin is wholesome and secure, but its coin-like texture also reminds us of money, piping, and other copper objects.

Can Gold And Silver Be Kept Together And Why

With a brief understanding of silvers reacting to oxidation and the same not happening to gold, we can now explore if the two can be kept together. The answer is yes you can keep silver and gold together since they are both non-reactive at room temperature.

You can place them on top of each other, and nothing will happen. If you take care of your jewelry, the tarnish wont appear on the silver either, keeping it and the gold safe.

One also has to look at the payoff of placing both gold and silver jewelry in one place. Scratching is a big issue that arises when you put any two metals together.

Thats why youre generally advised to keep different metals separately. You wouldnt want your gold jewelry leaving a mark on the silver one and vice versa because they scratched.

Keeping gold and silver together wont cause harm if youre careful handling them to avoid scratching.

Even so, those with larger storage space for jewelry are encouraged to keep the various metals and pieces separately. However, not everyone has that luxury and thus has to make do with having one home for their gold and silver.

Is It Ok To Wear Gold And Silver Together

Silver and Gold Prices are TANKING and This is Why!

Fashion rules and invisible glass ceilings of limitation are broken every new fashion season. Since the ancient times when gold and silver jewelry was the reserve of the royal elect among their societies, it was not historically known, nor was it deemed thinkable that you could wear both metals together. In present times, however, mindsets and societies have evolved. So, is it now okay to wear gold and silver together?

Our human nature makes us susceptible to the thoughts and opinions of others. Now, more than ever, it is important to be and feel that you are part of the collective. As human beings, one of the ways we fulfill this need is by self-aggrandizing ourselves with things of beauty such as jewelry.

Gold and silver each have their unique allure to them and they make us glow differently. Having bought these lovely and shiny metals with glistening and emotive messages or symbolism, we feel some sort of instant attachment to them and they could be hard to take off the first week or so.

Naturally, we want to wear all our favorite pieces. Which is all of them.

Golds Yin To The Stock Markets Yang

The reason gold tends to be resilient during stock market crashes is that the two are negatively correlated. In other words, when one goes up, the other tends to go down.

This makes sense when you think about it. Stocks benefit from economic growth and stability while gold benefits from economic distress and crisis. If the stock market falls, fear is usually high, and investors typically seek out the safe haven of gold. If stocks are rockin and rollin, the perceived need for gold from mainstream investors is low.

Historical data backs up this theory of negative correlation between gold and stocks. This chart shows the correlation of gold to other common asset classes. The zero line means gold does the opposite of that investment half of the time. If the line is below zero, gold moves in the opposite direction of that investment more often than with it if its above zero, it moves with that investment more often than against it.

Stocks Have a Negative Correlation to Gold

You can see that, on average, when the stock market crashes , gold has historically risen more than declined. Gold has also historically outperformed the cash sitting in your bank account or money market fund. Even real estate values follow gold only a little more than half the time.

This is the practical conclusion for investors:

  • If you want an asset that will rise when most other assets fall, gold is likely to do that more often than not.

Tips For Keeping Gold And Silver Together

The best way to store your gold and silver together is to, even in the same space, keep them separated. Thats important for the jewelry that you dont wear as often, and the silver ends up oxidizing. You dont want that to affect your gold.

Keep the jewelry from direct sunlight or where theres heat, which affects the metal itself and can cause it to tarnish faster. Find a cool spot on your dresser where theyre home and protected.

If you dont like the box that the jewelry came in, you can always purchase another. There are many designs in the market.

For example, you can go for a display case-style jewelry box or for something thats tiered of you prefer keeping your gold and silver items out of sight.

Here, preference, the collection size, and how much space you have will determine what you opt for.

You must get a jewelry case because leaving jewelry in their cotton pouches or polythene bags affects how theyll age.

Tips For Mixing Metals In Home Decor

3 minutes02.26.18

There are many tried and true rules for home decor that exist for a reason, but a rule against mixing metals is not one of them. Mixing metals adds both a clean and elegant style to any room. The different metals work together to add depth, guiding the eye from the dominant colors features to the accent colors.

However, mixing metals can often feel daunting. Mixing gold and silver, not to mention all the other metal hues on the market today, can be intimidating. Beyond deciding which metals to mix, there is also the matter of mixing metal finishes. Be it brushed stainless steel or hammered copper, there are many different combinations to choose from.

Luckily, when mixing metals in any room, you dont have to just stick with metal materials. You can add a piece with a silver hue or put copper kitchenware on display. Whatever style and color palette you choose, weve covered all the essentials you need to know to get started.

Is It Ok To Mix Metals In Jewelry

When mixing different styles of metals, a good rule of thumb is to aim for balance in the number of metal pieces you wear. Try to mix metals evenly throughout the look, like a mix of rose gold and silver necklaces with gold and silver bracelets, for a cohesive look. Think about the tone of each piece.

Do Gold And Grey Go Together

As I mentioned earlier, previously white gold or silver accessories would have been a natural with anything grey. However, just like the home trend, grey outfits are being accessorized with yellow gold jewelry and watches, and it works! Again the warmth of the gold really mixes so well with the pale grey. Love!

Dont Mix Two Metals In The Same Color Family

Silver IS NOT What You Think It IS

Mixing two metals that are in the same color family but have different undertones/sheens is usually going to look like you tried to match your metals but failed. Instead, you want contrast in your two metals!

Two things to note though subtle variations of metal tone within the same color family are totally fine. For example, the mirror and vanity lights in our bathroom are both gold/brass but theyre definitely not identical in appearance luckily the variation is subtle so it works. Different brands sometimes call almost identical looking metals completely different names so dont go by the names, go by what the metals look like.

And one last thing I have seen some really well designed rooms that break this rule and totally get away with it but it takes skill to pull off. As a mixed metals newbie, following this tip will make your metal mixing attempts more likely to succeed.

Here Are Some Tips On How To Dress Your Mixed Jewelry:

Does the mixed metal jewelry compliment your clothing? When accessorizing your outfit with mixed metal jewelry you must consider if it is the appropriate type of jewelry for the outfit and occasion. For example, is it a day time, funky type of outfit or are you dressing a fine and elegant evening dress? A day time look can afford a heavier, trendier and random style – For instance, a monogram necklace mixed with other chunky chains would work great with a casual, quirky outfit. However, a special evening look will take a more sophisticated, finer twist. Once you have decided on the style of Jewelry you can then begin to piece your gold and silver necklaces together.

What are you mixing? When mixing gold and silver accessories you only have to concern yourself with necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings. It is not a fashion requirement to consider your other accessories, such as handbags or shoes. There is no need to worry and stress about it matching the zip on your handbag or the buckle on your shoes etc. If anything, this adds to the mixing style and it shouldnt compromise the whole look. You can also take the engagement/wedding ring factor out of the equation this is no longer a decision you have to make, were living in a much freer world!
