While Rose tails the neighbors in the grocery store, Dorothy feuds and flirts with Al, and Blanches maternal instincts come into play with rookie cop Bobby. Sophia keeps the coolest under pressure and helps save the day.

The Days And Nights Of Sophia Petrillo Season 4 1988
While Dorothy, Rose and Blanche stay home on a lazy day, they fret about Sophias seeming lack of activity as she ages. Unknownst to the others, Sophias days are full of life, including advocating for ignored senior citizens at the grocery store, leading an all-older-women swing band, and volunteering at a hospital where she comforts a young boy battling HIV. Its one of the most charming and touching episodes in the series with a Chaplinesque balance of sentimentality and humor.

Wealthy Southern belle Blanche works at an art museum and grew up as the apple of her fathers eye. Today, Disney has announced that all seven seasons of fan-favourite sitcom, The Golden Girls, will be added to Star on Disney+ in Canada on Wednesday 8th September, 2021.

The Golden Girls Cast Bea Arthur As Dorothy Zbornak
In The Golden Girls, Dorothy was a recently divorced substitute teacher and voice of reason in the show ends up renting a room in the Miami home Blanche Devereaux. The series sees Dorothy have her fair share of romances, with a few of her suitors portrayed by well known actors, including Dick Van Dyke and Leslie Nielsen, who she ends up marrying in the final ever episode. Her ex-husband Stan also makes regular attempts to win her back.
Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, was born in New York, and joined the Marines before she became an actor. She began her career in the theatre before landing roles in TV, including the lead in 1970s sitcom Maude and a part in Star Wars Holiday Special. In 1985 she began playing Dorothy and stayed with the show for seven seasons. Two plotlines in the episode intersect when the guest list for Sophias wedding gets mixed up with a list of Elvis impersonators Rose and Blanche compiled for their Elvis fan club meeting. Disney has confirmed that every episode ever of The Golden Girls will start streaming on Disney+ this summer.
Every single episode of The Golden Girls is coming to Disney+ in 2021. During a Disney+ press event to promote the launch of the international service Star on Wednesday, several announcements were made about the House of Mouse’s plans for the streamer. With Disney+ eventually set to serve as the “exclusive streaming home” for Disney’s iconic catalog, licensing deals will start flipping over to the streamer as it continues to grow its base of nearly 100 million subscribers.
Star will be a hub within Disney+ offering movies and television content intended for an adult audience. This also opens the door for many, many more titles to become available on the streamer. Luke Bradley-Jones, SVP of direct-to-consumer and general manager for Disney+ EMEA, singled out The Golden Girls in particular as one show in particular he’s worked hard on getting, confirming that the series will hit the streamer this year.
“I’ve been working hard on that. Coming this summer, you will have every season of The Golden Girls, every ever episode,” he said.
Of course, the news of The Golden Girls coming to Disney+ is getting a lot of subscribers pretty excited. As one fan puts it in an amusing tweet, “Disney+ will soon have the original Muppet Show AND The Golden Girls so I guess it’s fine if lockdown never ends.”
The Golden Girls Is Headed To Streaming For The First Time
A lot of iconic comedies have started streaming over the past several years, including shows like Friends and Seinfeld, that have had a long shelf life in syndication prior to being made available for binge-watching. However, there’s one popular syndicated show that hasn’t been snapped up by a streaming service, yet, although now it looks as if Hulu will be rectifying that situation. That’s right, The Golden Girls is headed to streaming.
Reports this week indicate that Hulu has struck a deal with the owners of the former NBC comedy to bring it to streaming, in full, for the first time. The announcement was made at Hulu’s TCA press panel . The news also stated that The Golden Girls will be streaming very soon, as the entire library of the series will hit the service on February 13.
While Netflix has spent a ton of its budget creating original programming, Hulu has spent more time cultivating a library of fan favorites, including the aforementioned Seinfeld. Hulu does have some originals, as well, but Hulu’s Head of Content Craig Erich openly stated at the press day that the hope was to bring in more series that are “fan favorites” and would work best with “longtime fans.” That’s pretty much the opposite of what Netflix is trying to do right now, making Hulu a viable option in a different way.

Disney+ home to classics like The Lion King and films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon be adding The Golden Girls to its roster of streamable content.
According to New York Daily News, during a virtual press conference to promote the launch of Disney+s Star branch in European markets, executives confirmed that the sitcom will be heading to Disney+ this summer.
The Disney+ Senior Vice President Luke Bradley-Jones has reportedly been working diligently to transfer the series from Hulu to Disney+. And, it looks like his hard work has finally paid off.
