Donato Goes Down In History

St. Louis Blues vs Vegas Golden Knights Live NHL Play by Play & Chat

And there it is. The Seattle Kraken are on the board, as Ryan Donato knocks home a rebound as a power play expires. Its not the prettiest goal youll ever see, but its the best in franchise history. And it keeps this a game, as the Kraken stay within range at 3-1 midway through the second.

Gentille: Ryan Donatos former claim to fame was as the best NHL player to share a name with a pizza chain. He has now upgraded.

Golden Knights’ Mark Stone: Exits After Taking Puck To Ear

Stone left Sunday’s preseason game against the Sharks after taking a puck to the ear in the first period and won’t return, David Schoen of The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The severity of Stone’s injury is not yet known, as it’s entirely possible that his exit was precautionary. He lay down on the ice in the immediate aftermath of getting hit by the puck but went to the locker room under his own power. The Golden Knights will likely deliver an update on his injury prior to Tuesday’s preseason game against Colorado.

Logos Colors And Uniforms

The team’s primary logo is a barbute helmet, superimposed on a black and gold shield, with a V-shaped opening. The secondary logo is two crossing swords behind a red star, designed to resemble the star found on the landmark Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign.

The team’s primary color is steel gray, which is said to represent “strength and durability”. The other team colors are gold, red , and black .

The first uniforms in Golden Knights team history were unveiled publicly on June 20, 2017. Home uniforms are steel gray with black, gold and red stripes, while road uniforms are white with steel gray, gold and red stripes. Shoulders feature the alternate swords logo. On October 2, 2020, the Golden Knights introduced a gold alternate uniform, essentially a palette swap of the road uniforms with gold and white switching places. On February 11, 2021, the Golden Knights debuted shiny gold helmets as an alternate to their home gray helmets.

The Golden Knights also released a special “Reverse Retro” alternate uniform. Due to the team’s short history, the Golden Knights chose to honor the defunct International Hockey League‘s Las Vegas Thunder in creating the uniform, using a red base and featuring the “crossing swords” logo in front.

Predictions: Who Will Score The Kraken’s First Goal

So close. I picked Brandon Tanev to score the first goal in Kraken history in today’s oddly specific predictions post, and he gets a first-period breakaway. Nifty move too, but Robin Lehner pokes it away and it’s still 2-0.

Gentille: Ill go with Jared McCann. Assuming he watched the Penguins middle-sixers pot all those goals in the first game and got jealous.

McIndoe: Behind the scenes, I picked like four different guys, including McCann, and everyone kept popping up on the COVID list.

The Golden Knights took a crazy Game 1 thanks to a crazier ...

Welcome to the NHL, Seattle!

The NHL’s newest team, the Kraken, will hit the ice in Las Vegas to take on the Golden Knights on opening night. Before things get underway at T-Mobile Arena, the Lightning will take on the Penguins in Florida. The games mark the return of ESPN as the league’s broadcaster.

What to expect from the Kraken in 2021-22 is anyone’s guess. Will they be like expansion teams of yore, who struggled mightily against the more established clubs? Or will they be more like their first opponent, the Golden Knights, who went to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural year? Time will tell but the team did make some big moves already including signing free agents Jaden Schwartz and Philipp Grubauer and naming Mark Giordano the franchise’s first captain.

In the opening act on opening day, the defending champs will take on a Penguins crew that is expected to be missing Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby. The Penguins captain underwent wrist surgery in September and while he skated over the weekend he’s not scheduled to return just yet.

Vegas Golden Knights Forward Chandler Stephenson Will Miss His Second Straight Game Tonight As He Is Out For Game 3 Against The Montreal Canadiens

    TSN.ca Staff

Chandler Stephenson , The Canadian Press

Vegas Golden Knights forward Chandler Stephenson will miss his second straight game tonight as he is out for Game 3 against the Montreal Canadiens.

He was not on the ice this morning for the Golden Knights’ skate.

Stephenson was a late scratch prior to Game 2 and Knights head coach Peter DeBoer told reporters Thursday he was day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

He recorded one assist in 17:26 of ice time in the Golden Knights’ victory in Game 1.

The 27-year-old had 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points in 51 regular season games for Vegas this season.

Tomas Nosek took warmups ahead of Game 3 for the Golden Knights.

The Habs and Golden Knights are even at one game apiece in their best-of-seven third-round series. .

The Day After: Hyman Stays Hot As Oilers Topple Golden Knights

Zach Hyman took the shine right off of Vegas helmets.

Another two-goal performance from the Edmonton Oilers newcomer helped to propel his club to a decisive 5-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. His first tally came when the Oilers were already down 1-0 eight minutes into the game in thanks to Hyman occupying the front of the net on the powerplay.

His second, arguably the most important of the game, came when he ripped a wrist shot from the high slot.

Hes been huge. He works so hard, its contagious, said teammate Zack Kassian. You saw it in Phoenix and you saw it tonight he can shoot the puck, he can score goals. It was a great pickup for us. Its going to help tremendously.

Its that prowess thats certainly rubbed off on those around him. The Oilers have been able to roll three lines with confidence this season and Hyman is a big part of that. Hes help to solidify the Oilers second line as a line that can not only give strong minutes in their own zone, but in the offensive zone too.

Hes now up to five goals on the season in five games, four of which that have come on this two-game road trip alone. As I wrote about yesterday, hes ben everything the Oilers wanted and more.

Another Zack played a big role in the win, too. Kassian broke away from defenders at the blue line getting a clear lane to the net where he made a quick move to slip a puck through Robin Lehners five-hole in what would be the game-winning goal.

Golden Knights’ Shea Theodore: Doesn’t Finish Preseason Opener

Theodore left Sunday’s preseason game against the Sharks early, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Theodore, Brayden McNabb and Mark Stone — the latter of whom was hit in the ear by the puck — all exited early. These exits may be precautionary, but there will be some anxious moments in Golden Knights nation until an update surfaces on Theodore’s status.

Golden Knights’ Dylan Coghlan: Gets Two

Coghlan signed a two-year, $1.525 million contract with the Golden Knights on Wednesday.

Coghlan appeared in 29 games last season, logging six points, 29 hits and a minus-3 rating while often serving as a bottom-pairing option. The 23-year-old will likely continue in a similar role this season. He’ll have to compete with Zach Whitecloud and Nicolas Hague when the Golden Knights’ defense corps is at full health.

Golden Knights’ Peyton Krebs: On Ice For Practice

Krebs was at the Golden Knights’ afternoon practice session Thursday, David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The oft-injured center earned an assist in four games in his first taste of NHL action last year. Krebs’ presence at training camp suggests his broken jaw has healed well enough for him to get on the ice. He’ll be in competition for a bottom-six role during camp, although it wouldn’t be surprising for the first-round pick from 2019 to end up with AHL Henderson to begin 2021-22.

Golden Knights’ Nicolas Roy: Waiting On Test Results

Roy , who took a cross check to his back during Thursday’s preseason game versus LA, is awaiting test results to determine the severity of his injury, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Another update on Roy, who picked up 15 points through 50 games last season, should surface once the Golden Knights receive his test results. The 24-year-old forward won’t play Friday against the Kings, and at this point he should probably be considered a longshot for Tuesday’s preseason matchup with the Avalanche as well.

Goal: Golden Knights 4 Kraken 3

Morgan Geekie beats Lehner on a laser beam from the circle off a rush to make it 3-3 midway through the third.

Vegas roars right back, though. Chandler Stephenson makes it 4-3, directing a puck in with his skate. Thats legal you cant kick, but if your skate doesnt leave the ice youre usually fine. Good goal, and Vegas is back in front.

Golden Knights’ Laurent Brossoit: Draws Start Friday

Brossoit will patrol the crease in Friday’s preseason tilt against the Kings, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Brossoit will make another preseason appearance as he gets ready for the start for the 2021-22 campaign. The 28-year-old won’t get many looks this season behind Robin Lehner barring any injury.

Brossoit Makes His Debut As A Starter

Brossoit made his debut as a starter for the Golden Knights and turned in a performance that was deserving of a win. When the Golden Knights were getting severely outplayed for the majority of the first 40 minutes, it was Brossoit that was bailing them out with big save after big save. He was the teams best player tonight and deserves all the praise for this performance.

After the Golden Knights got rid of Marc-Andre Fleury this summer, there were major question marks on if they made the right decision. The combination of Fleury and current starter Robin Lehner was the best in the league last season and having two starting-caliber goalies was crucial to the Golden Knights success. Tonight, Brossoit proved that there doesnt have to be a major drop-off from that level of production.

We needed our goalie to be our best player and he was. commented DeBoer.

Brossoits low salary of just $2.35 million is one of the biggest reasons why the Golden Knights were able to afford to bring in Dadonov this summer who conveniently scored the overtime winner tonight. Brossoit saved 1.27 goals above expected tonight and combined with Lehner he has helped the Golden Knights have some of the best goaltending so far through this short season.

Golden Knights’ Robin Lehner: Exits With Minor Injury

Vegas Golden Knights vs Colorado Avalanche | Live NHL Play by Play & Chat

Lehner left Thursday’s matchup with Los Angeles due to a minor injury. David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal told reporters, “Wasn’t supposed to come out. Just precautionary. We didn’t want to risk further injury. He didn’t have anything serious but we didn’t want to risk anything.”

It doesn’t sound like this undisclosed issue will impact Lehner’s availability for Opening Night against Seattle on Oct. 12 though any time a team’s No. 1 netminder picks up an injury it’s worth monitoring. The 30-year-old figures to carry the bulk of the workload for the Golden Knights this season following the offseason departure of Marc-Andre Fleury.

Final: Golden Knights 4 Kraken 3

Thats our final, as Stephensons goal holds up as the winner. Unlike the NFL, our players know how to win games on a clutch kick.

All in all, not a bad night of hockey. Some history from Seattle, an upset, some drama, one rules controversy and 15 goals across two games. Sure, like 12 of those were scored into Tampas empty net, but lets not dwell on the how.

Now we can all calm down, take a deep breath and get ready for tomorrow, which features Leafs vs. Habs and Rangers vs. Tom Wilson and whoever else he brings with him. Oh no.

Gentille: Hearing that Chandler Stephenson has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, yes. Ah man, that was a good night. First game was a dud but featured a hilarious gambling outcome, second one was a blast and featured actual history. It was a representative five hours of hockey. What else can you ask for? Ill take another eight or nine months of this, including the -minute catnap I took in the third period of Vegas-Kraken.

FINAL: Kraken fall 4-3 in their first ever game to the Golden Knights. The chase for franchise win No. 1 resumes Thursday against the Nashville Predators. #SeaKraken

Goalie Intrigue On Both Sides

This game features two of the most intriguing goalies in the league. Robin Lehner is trying to do the impossible, replacing the most beloved player in Vegas franchise history after Marc-Andre Fleury was given away to the Blackhawks. And Philipp Grubauer went from undisputed starter in Colorado to somewhat surprising UFA to very surprising ex-Avalanche.

Both guys have a ceiling of Vezina Trophy winner. Both have a floor of not as good as wed hoped theyd be, which is a standard issue for NHL goalies. But the difference is that if Grubauer struggles, the Kraken can ride Chris Driedger for a bit and a fan base just happy to have a team probably wont worry too much. If Lehner struggles in Vegas, it probably wont take long for the panic level to start rising.

Golden Knights’ Daniil Chayka: Inks Entry

New Game Preview: Golden Knights Vs Ducks

Chayka signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Vegas on Sunday.

Chayka was a second-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He suited up for 11 games with KHL Moscow last season, notching a goal and two points with a minus-2 rating. The 18-year-old blueliner is still at least a couple of years away from making an NHL impact.
