Beloved comedy duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will cohost the awards show for the fourth time, and it comes as little surprise given the rave reviews theyve received for the trio of shows they emceed between 2013 and 2015. In 2016, the Sisters costars passed the mic back to comedian Ricky Gervais, followed by Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, then Gervais again last year.

The event will be broadcast on NBC and available through the networks website with a television-provider login. What Are The Golden Globe Awards
These are awards handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on a yearly basis since 1944. Unlike the Emmy Awards or Academy Awards, the HFPA recognizes film and television, and tends to have a more international outlook. The Globes are considered a precursor to the Academy Awards in terms of lending buzz and heat to actors and films in the running for Oscars.
The Golden Globes Controversy Has Been A Long Time Coming
Since February, the HFPA has become embroiled in a series of major controversies. Firstly, the LA Times article detailed a “culture of corruption” which included improperly subsidizing its members’ income, arbitrarily withholding membership from qualified candidates, creating a monopoly on international press access in Hollywood, and breaching journalistic ethics by accepting thousands of dollars’ worth of gifts from studios.
The article also revealed, damningly, that none of the HFPA’s 87 members are Black. Former HFPA president Meher Tatner later admitted that no Black journalist has been a member for almost two decades. This admission came after the 2021 Globe nominations had already come under fire for overlooking several Black-led movies, which outlets such as Variety noted was part of a long-standing pattern.
Shortly after the Times article, the HFPA released a statement saying We are fully committed to ensuring our membership is reflective of the communities around the world who love film, TV, and the artists inspiring and educating them. We understand that we need to bring in Black members, as well as members from other underrepresented backgrounds, and we will immediately work to implement an action plan to achieve these goals as soon as possible.

This year’s recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award the award show’s version of a lifetime achievement honor is seven-time Globe winner and two-time Oscar winner . Fonda joins the illustrious ranks of past Cecil B. DeMille award honorees that includes Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, and Jeff Bridges.

This years Golden Globe awards event considered to be the younger, more untethered and relaxed sibling of the formal Academy Awards or Oscars was a muted affair as it was privately held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday night. In a major departure from the norm, the results were announced only on social media sites, and there was no telecast or live streaming this time.
A press release from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said, Health and safety remain a top priority for the HFPA. There will not be an audience on January 9th, and the following precautions are being taken for select members and grantees who will be in the room: Proof of vaccination and booster shot, along with a negative PCR test within 48 hours, is required for entry All guests will be masked and socially distanced at all times while inside the ballroom There will be no red carpet.
The reason, however, is not as much the Covid-19 pandemic as it is the industry-wide boycott of HFPA.
The Globes are given out by HFPA every year in early January. One notable exception was the 2021 iteration when owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the major awards were delayed. The ceremonies were also pared-down due to requisite social distancing norms.

Nbc Announced That It Will Not Air The Golden Globes In 2022
Days after HFPA announced its plan, the powers that be at NBC made it clear that they were unimpressed. The network, which has aired the Globes for 25 years, announced that it would not air the ceremony in 2022, because HFPA was not moving swiftly enough to address its multiple crises.
We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right, NBC said in a statement. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”
A number of studios, including WarnerMedia, Netflix and Amazon Studios, also announced that they would not participate in any more HFPA events until the organization made substantial changes.

Filmmaker Spike Lees children, Satchel and Jackson Lee, are this years Golden Globe Ambassadors, who assisted with duties during the awards show. Per the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Satchel and Jacksons appointment marks the first time in HFPA history that two siblings of color have held the position, with Jackson being the first Black male Ambassador.

Live Streaming Services With Nbc
One of the cheapest live TV streaming options to watch the Golden Globes on is Sling TV. The Sling Blue plan costs $35 a month and offers 44 channels, including your local NBC station. New members can receive a three-day trial. If you don’t want a trial, you can opt for $10 off your first month instead.
Locast is another cheap streaming option with access to the Golden Globes. Locast is a non-profit streaming service with local channels, meaning you can watch networks like NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox without having to pay a dime.
With that said, the free option is periodically interrupted by donation requests. You’ll have to pay $5 a month to support the service if you want to avoid pesky interruptions during the Golden Globes and other programs. On the downside, Locast is only available in select markets and it only offers local stations. If you want more channels, you’ll need a service like Sling or Hulu + Live TV.
Other streaming services, like Fubo TV, Hulu + Live TV, and YouTube TV, all cost $65 a month and also include NBC in select markets. If you’re looking for the most channels, Fubo TV’s Family plan is the best option with over 122. Meanwhile, Hulu’s service has around 65 channels but it also includes access to all of Hulu’s on-demand shows and movies. YouTube TV is somewhere in the middle, with around 85 channels.
All three services offer a free one-week trial for new members.
