Why The Lightning Can Win

NHL Game Highlights | Golden Knights vs. Wild – May 5, 2021

Counting Tampa Bay out during the playoffs is not a wise move, as many already can admit this postseason. The Lightning trailed Toronto 3-2 in the first round and lost the first two games of the Eastern Conference final against the New York Rangers but proved their mettle in both series. Having the reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner in the crease certainly helps their cause as Andrei Vasilevskiy limited the Maple Leafs to four goals over the final two games of their matchup and allowed only five versus the Rangers as Tampa Bay won four straight.

Vasilevskiy was shaky when the Final began, giving up 11 goals over the first two contests, but he has given up only five against Colorado’s explosive offense in the last two. Although obviously not operating at 100 percent, Nikita Kucherov is an offensive threat every time he steps onto the ice. The 29-year-old Russian right wing, who was the league’s leading scorer each of the last two postseasons, ranks fourth in 2022 with 26 points in 21 contests.

Golden Knights’ Laurent Brossoit: Struggles In Tuesday’s Loss

Brossoit allowed four goals on 19 shots in Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Lightning.

With Robin Lehner unavailable Tuesday, Brossoit drew a tough start and wasn’t up to the challenge. The 28-year-old has rarely played that poorly this season. He owns a 6-3-0 record, a 2.72 GAA and a .904 save percentage through 11 contests. The Golden Knights aren’t scheduled to play again until Monday versus the Avalanche — that would be another tough draw for Brossoit if Lehner isn’t healthy enough to play.

Golden Knights Robin Lehner: Starting Versus Kings On Thursday

Lehner will protect the road goal in Thursdays preseason game versus the Kings, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.

Lehner is set to get into his first preseason game of the year. Its likely just a tune-up for the 30-year-old, who figures to receive a noticeable majority of the starts for the Golden Knights in 2021-22. He had a 2.29 GAA and a .913 save percentage with a 13-4-2 record across 19 games last year.

Golden Knights Brayden Mcnabb: Focused On Opening Night

McNabb wont play in Fridays preseason clash with the Kings but is expected to be ready for Opening Night against Seattle on Oct. 12, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Over the course of his nine-year NHL career, McNabb has reached the 20-point threshold just once back in 2014-15. Given his limited offensive upside, few fantasy players should be impacted even if McNabb does miss some regular-season action.

This is going to be an old-fashioned dirty slog of a hockey game. Dallas doesnt score much as it is and gives up very little on home ice. Knowing this Vegas isnt going to take a ton of chances to generate offense early. I think both teams will be content with a scoreless game or a 1-1 game through the first 30 minutes. Vegas, however, really needs to win this game in regulation so expect the Golden Knight to amp up the pressure in the final period and get Dallas on its heels. Either way, I think a 3-1 or 3-2 final is the most likely result.

Golden Knights’ Mark Stone: Scores Twice Before Injury

Stone scored twice in Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Lightning, but he was removed from the game in the second period after aggravating an undisclosed injury, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Per Granger’s report, head coach Pete DeBoer believes Stone’s injury is related to the one that kept him out of the lineup Sunday versus the Islanders. DeBoer also alluded to keeping Stone out of the third period Tuesday to avoid further injury giving the upcoming holiday break. It remains concerning that Stone can’t shake this particular issue. The 29-year-old winger has managed six goals, 17 assists and 39 shots on net through 19 appearances this season. For now, he can be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday’s scheduled game versus the Avalanche.

Golden Knights Shea Theodore: Wont Play Friday

Theodore wont play in Friday nights preseason game versus LA, but coach Pete DeBoer is confident hell be 100 percent healthy for Vegas regular-season opener versus Seattle on Oct. 12, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Theodore skated Friday and will likely get into another preseason game or two before the regular season gets underway, but theres no reason for the Golden Knights to rush him back before hes fully healthy. The 26-year-old blueliner racked up eight goals and 42 points through 53 contests last campaign and should be considered a high-end fantasy option at his position heading into this years drafts.
