Recap: The Golden Knights traveled north to Salt Lake City to participate in their third exhibition game. Vegas goaltender Robin Lehner took net for his first preseason game facing off against the LA Kings.
LA took the quick lead 1:45 into the game picking up a loose rebound and sneaking it by Lehner. The Kings added to their lead early in the middle frame to double up the Golden Knights 2-0 after 40 minutes of play.
Vegas prospect Daniil Miromanov gave his team some life in the third period with a wicked wrist shot. LA would eventually regain their two goal lead on the power play and win 3-1 in Salt Lake City.
The Golden Knights preseason record drops to 1-2 with their 3-1 defeat. Vegas and LA will face off again tomorrow night at T-Mobile Arena. Puck drops 7 PM PT.
Analysis: The Golden Knights didnt really look all too interested in this game. Never really got going as the monotony of the preseason rolls on.

Golden Knights’ Brett Howden: Attends Afternoon Session
Howden skated at the Golden Knights’ afternoon session of Thursday’s practice, David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Howden was traded from the Rangers to the Golden Knights in July after posting just seven points in 42 games last season. The 23-year-old will likely compete for a bottom-six role in training camp, and his ability to play either center or wing should help his cause for making the Opening Night roster.
Golden Knights’ Shea Theodore: Won’t Play Friday
Theodore won’t play in Friday night’s preseason game versus LA, but coach Pete DeBoer is confident he’ll be 100 percent healthy for Vegas’ regular-season opener versus Seattle on Oct. 12, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
Theodore skated Friday and will likely get into another preseason game or two before the regular season gets underway, but there’s no reason for the Golden Knights to rush him back before he’s fully healthy. The 26-year-old blueliner racked up eight goals and 42 points through 53 contests last campaign and should be considered a high-end fantasy option at his position heading into this year’s drafts.

The Canadiens are relying on assistant coach Luke Richardson to run their bench after head man Dominique Ducharme received a positive COVID-19 test result before Game 3. In Game 4, Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon was absent from his box at the Bell Centre after a positive test of his own.
As of Monday afternoon, no players from either team appeared on the NHLs COVID Protocol list.
Also, Vegas coach Pete DeBoer gambled and won in Game 4 when he started goaltender Robin Lehner for just the second time in the playoffs instead of presumptive playoff MVP Marc-Andre Fleury.

Golden Knights’ Daniil Chayka: Inks Entry
Chayka signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Vegas on Sunday.
Chayka was a second-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He suited up for 11 games with KHL Moscow last season, notching a goal and two points with a minus-2 rating. The 18-year-old blueliner is still at least a couple of years away from making an NHL impact.

Theodore is considered day-to-day with his undisclosed injury, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
Theodore exited Sunday’s preseason game versus San Jose with an undisclosed issue. He won’t play in Tuesday night’s preseason contest against Colorado, but his day-to-day tag suggests he should be back on the ice sooner rather than later. The 26-year-old blueliner racked up eight goals and 42 points in just 53 games last campaign and should be able to produce double-digit goals and 50-plus points over the course of a full 82-game season in 2021-22.

A Look At The Difference
On Sunday, Lehner was the difference maker, stopping 27 of 28 shots including a breakaway by rookie sniper Cole Caufield midway through the third period. After the game, DeBoer said he decided to make the switch because he thought Fleury seemed fatigued a 36-year-old who had played more minutes than any other goaltender in the playoffs.
After Lehners strong performance, DeBoer has another tough decision to make for Game 5. Does he ride the hot hand and stay with fresh-as-a-daisy Lehner? Or does he go back to his presumably refreshed MVP, Fleury?
DeBoer also teased a potential return for Chandler Stephenson. The coach has been forced to juggle his forwards after losing his top center to an upper-body injury in Game 1. But during his media availability on Monday, he said that Stephensons return is on the horizon.

Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man’s league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHL regulars next season.
For this one, we will be looking at the Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights have become notorious for trading prospects away, as they are on the hunt for their first ever Stanley Cup. They have traded all three of their 2017 first-round picks, with the most notable being Canadiens center, Nick Suzuki. Yet, they do have some interesting ones remaining who could challenge for an NHL spot next season. Here are two who come to mind.
Peyton Krebs C/LW: Forward Peyton Krebs has a good shot of playing for Vegas at the start of this upcoming season. He has the ability to play center, and at this juncture, that is where the Golden Knights need the most help. He suited up in four games with the Golden Knights this past season and recorded an assist. In five games with the Henderson Silver Knights, he scored a goal and recorded five points. The 20-year-old has the tools to be an effective point-producer at the NHL level, but also has been praised for his defensive game, too. With all of this said, Vegas should give him a chance at a full-time spot next season.

If you were tired of seeing only the Avalanche, Blues, Wild, Coyotes, Ducks, Sharks and Kings during the regular season last year, good news.
Only the Ducks, Sharks and Kings will be in the same division as the Golden Knights next season, and there wont be 24 combined games against them.
The NHL is returning to its traditional division format next year, meaning that along with the California teams, Vegas will be joined in the Pacific Division by three Canadian teams the Oilers, Flames and Canucks as well as the expansion Kraken.
The Avalanche, Blues and Wild will return to their usual spots in the Central, while the Coyotes will join them to make room for the Kraken in the Pacific.
It all means Vegas path to a division title got a whole lot easier.
The Golden Knights missed out on the West crown last year to the Avalanche. And on paper, none of the seven Pacific foes seem to stack up to the Golden Knights, who are expected to be a power once again. They are minus-200 favorites at William Hill.

The Golden Knights continue to benefit from the great job that George McPhee did in the expansion draft, stockpiling draft picks. The team has also drafted extremely well, getting a number of quality prospects with later-round picks. This means that their system still has decent depth despite trading away some picks and prospects in order to compete for the Stanley Cup right now.
In goal, the Golden Knights also have Isaiah Saville, Jiri Patera, Logan Thompson, Dylan Ferguson, and Jesper Vikman. Prospects to watch on the blue line include Peter Diliberatore, Noah Ellis, Brayden Pachal, Zack Hayes, Connor Corcoran and Layton Ahac. Forwards prospects to keep an eye on include Pavel Dorofeyev, Daniil Miromanov, Jonas Rjondberg, Jake Leschyshyn, Paul Cotter, Ryder Donovan, Mason Primeau, Martins Dzierkals, Maxim Marushev, Jackson Hallum, and Brandon Kruse

Golden Knights Have A Large Void To Fill After Reaves Trade
The Vegas Golden Knights have been active this off-season. They have created cap space by trading away Vezina Trophy winner, Marc-Andre Fleury, to re-sign players like Mattias Janmark and Alec Martinez. However, the trade that might have the biggest effect on the Golden Knights revolves around Ryan Reaves. The fourth liner and fan favorite was traded to the New York Rangers for a 2022 third-round draft pick. This trade removes the most physical player on the Vegas roster and leaves a big void in their lineup and community.
Golden Knights’ Brayden Mcnabb: Dealing With Charley Horse
McNabb didn’t suffer any structural damage when he was injured in Sunday’s preseason matchup with the Sharks, but he is dealing with a charley horse, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
The Golden Knights aren’t going to rush McNabb back before he’s fully recovered from his injury, but at this point there’s no reason to believe he’s in any danger of missing regular-season action. The 30-year-old defender picked up eight points and 98 hits while averaging 19:18 of ice time through 41 games last campaign.

The Void Being Left Behind
By trading Reaves, the Golden Knights have left a massive void in their lineup. The Meat Grinders line is now no more as William Carrier is the only member of it still in Vegas. This trio was one of the most reliable fourth lines in the league. This is due to their consistent play, point production, and physical presence. Most of this was lead by Reaves. In his time with the Golden Knights, he has played 209 games, produced 42 points, and had 158 penalty minutes. However, the most important stat revolves around hits.
Over the last four seasons, Reaves has been responsible for 998 hits. He also led the league in this category twice amongst forwards during his tenure with Vegas. When looking at this stat, it is quite clear that he was the most physical player on the ice. This physical presence is going to be hard for the Golden Knights to replace him. During the 2020-21 season, Reaves was responsible for the most hits on the team despite only playing 37 games with 141. The next two closest forwards in hit totals for Vegas were William Carrier and Keegan Kolesar .

Canadiens Vs Golden Knights Pick
Montreals wins in Games 2 and 3 and strong play in Game 4 have done nothing to impress the oddsmakers. They have once again made the Golden Knights heavy favorites as the series shifts back to the Vegas Strip on Tuesday.
After going down 0-2 to the Colorado Avalanche in their second-round series, the Golden Knights found another gear when they hit the ice at T-Mobile Arena in front their loud, unwavering fans. Many have expected them to flip the switch in this series as well.
If the speedy Stephenson returns, that would certainly help hes the perfect compliment to his ice-cold linemates Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone . Give credit to Montreals checking center Phillip Danault for his strong matchup work, as well.
We dont know if Stephenson will be ready to play on Tuesday. And we dont know what DeBoers going to try in net or if it will work. So dont rule out an underdog bet on Montreal.
At -240, the oddsmakers at William Hill are giving the Canadiens just a 32.26% chance of winning Game 5. In a series that has been full of twists, turns and surprises, that could offer great value to a bold bettor.
In Round 1, the Canadiens were counted out when the went down 3-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bit by bit, the moved the needle far enough in their direction to advance. They werent given much of a chance against the Winnipeg Jets, either, but barely broke a sweat in that four-game sweep.

Golden Knights’ Jake Bischoff: Not Expected At Training Camp
Bischoff is not expected to participate in training camp, David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
The nature of Bischoff’s injury is unclear, but it’s apparently serious enough to keep him off the ice for approximately the next month. The defenseman has just four NHL games to his name at 27 years old, so he would have been a long-shot to make the Golden Knights’ Opening Night roster anyway. Instead, he’ll likely spend most of 2021-22 with AHL Henderson.
