The Daily Faceoff Show: Whats Next For The Vegas Golden Knights Goaltending Situation

NHL Highlights | Golden Knights vs. Bruins – Dec. 14, 2021

Wednesday nights game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Washington Capitals featured something you dont see very often.

No, not just 36-year-old Alex Ovechkin reaching the 50-goal plateau, but Vegas head coach Pete DeBoer opting to pull Robin Lehner in a game that was tied at 1-1.

Matt Larkin and Mike McKenna talked about the pull on Thursdays edition of The Daily Faceoff Show.

Larkin: Vegas beat the Capitals by a score of 3-2 in overtime. Robin Lehner was pulled after the first period in which he allowed one goal on 13 shots.

“Pete DeBoer told reporter Jesse Granger from The Athletic after the game that Lehner was healthy, the team pays him to start these kinds of games, and the team was rattled. To me, it doesnt make sense. Washington scored 6:18 into the game and Vegas tied it seven minutes later. How was this team rattled at the intermission?

“Tell me whats going on here. Somethings fishy.

McKenna: Im just surprised. Ive never seen a goalie pulled after allowing one goal on 13 shots in the first period of a tie game. Thats never happened before to me, Ive never seen it.

“The closest Ive seen was when I was playing in the AHL and Curtis McElhinney allowed two goals pretty quickly, one in the first and one in the second, and I got thrown in by Ryan McGill, who, ironically, is the assistant coach of the Golden Knights now.

Golden Knights’ Nolan Patrick: Practices In Regular Jersey

Patrick skated at practice in a regular jersey Tuesday, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Patrick recently returned to practice in a non-contact jersey, but Tuesday’s session was the first for him to be in a regular sweater. The 23-year-old still doesn’t have a clear timeline to return, but these latest developments suggest he shouldn’t be out for too much longer. He’s been sidelined since Oct. 22.

Lehner Could Miss Remainder Of Season

According to Jesse Granger of The Athletic, Lehners latest injury is believed to be a significant one and could result in him missing the remainder of the 2021-22 season. The 30-year-old has been out of the lineup since Mar. 9 with what the team is calling a lower-body injury. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff said recently he believes Lehner has a fractured patella, which explains rumors recently that he was seen on crutches.

After coming across the video of Seravalli explaining the injury on Twitter, Lehner himself replied to the tweet with a message saying Not true. Again.

Jack Eichel Reacts To Sabres Fans After Returning To Buffalo

NHL Highlights | Golden Knights vs. Coyotes – Dec. 3, 2021

Jack Eichel reacts to Sabres fans booing him after he returned to Buffalo for the first time since being traded.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Peyton Krebs and Alex Tuch provided a glimpse of a brighter post-Jack Eichel future on a night Sabres fans booed the teams former captain in his first appearance back in Buffalo since being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Energizing the largest turnout of the season in Buffalo was cheering on Krebs and Tuch the two players acquired in the trade scoring key goals in a 3-1 win.

And making the night more memorable in a season the Sabres are all but assured of missing the playoffs for an NHL-record 11th straight season was Craig Anderson stopping 30 shots to become the 39th NHL goalie to win 300 career games.

As a team and as an organization, weve got to earn back our fans, and thats a step in the right direction, said Krebs, who opened the scoring 7:53 into the game and less than a minute after the Sabres showed a video paying tribute to Eichel.

I want the best for Jack, but that was exciting, he added. Me and Tuchy, were passionate about playing here in Buffalo. We want to do the best we can for this organization.

Eichel had a far different take in summing up his return to a rink where he spent six seasons knowing mostly losing.

Yeah, this is about the loudest Ive heard this place ever, Eichel said. Really. After it took seven years, and me leaving for them to get into the game.

Hughes Canucks Need Bounce

Dan Murphy and Mark Spector broke down Travis Green’s comments one day after the Vancouver Canucks’ Game 1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and how the team has to rebound in Game 2.

EDMONTON There are so many lessons for the Vancouver Canucks these days, and so many folks out there eager to point the Canucks players in the direction of their next tutorial.

Ryan Reaves. Zone exits. Quinn Hughes. Antoine Roussel.

You want advice? Hop on Twitter, or sports talk radio. Weve got advice.

The lineup of those who seem to know where the Canucks should start their recovery from a 5-0 Game 1 obliteration by Vegas is a long one. The acceptance of this friendly advice by Canucks coach Travis Green and his players, however, is much shorter.

Win a game and move on as fast as possible, lose a game and move on as fast as possible, said Tanner Pearson, winner of the 2014 Stanley Cup as a Los Angeles King. Weve reiterated that after every game. Next games a new game, and the last one doesnt really matter.

That lesson is of particular value when you get thrashed as mightily as the Canucks did in Game 1. Truly, as Green said after the game, This was probably our worst game tonight.

So, where do they go, these Vancouver Canucks, against a supremely confident Vegas team that has lost but once in nine starts since arriving in the Edmonton bubble?

Green, meanwhile, shifted the focus off his young core and on to, as hockey people like to say these days, the group.

Why Loud Noise Damages Your Hearing

Okay, if you dont know much about decibels, maybe that information doesnt mean much to you right now. Decibels are measurements of the loudness of a sound. Below are some decibel measurements to help contextualize the loudness of various sounds.

  • Regular breathing 10 dB
  • Emergency vehicle sirens 120 dB
  • Firearms 140+ dB

As a sound goes up in decibels, the faster it can damage your hearing. Around 80-85 dB, you can start to damage your hearing, though it would take about two hours of exposure to decibels of that level. However, once you hit 100 dB and above, hearing loss can happen in a matter of minutes.

The louder the sound your auditory system has to process, the increased likelihood that it will damage the delicate hairs in your inner ear. These hair cells vibrate and transmit sound to the auditory nerve, which conveys the sound information to your brain. However, louder sounds impact the hair cells and can cause them to break. Once the inner ear hairs are broken, there is no way to repair them.

So, when you know that you will be doing something that will expose you to higher levels of decibels, our hearing health care specialists here at Hearing Associates of Las Vegas recommend that you wear hearing protection, especially at your next Vegas Golden Knights game!

Golden Knights’ Laurent Brossoit: Struggles In Tuesday’s Loss

Golden Knights

Brossoit allowed four goals on 19 shots in Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Lightning.

With Robin Lehner unavailable Tuesday, Brossoit drew a tough start and wasn’t up to the challenge. The 28-year-old has rarely played that poorly this season. He owns a 6-3-0 record, a 2.72 GAA and a .904 save percentage through 11 contests. The Golden Knights aren’t scheduled to play again until Monday versus the Avalanche — that would be another tough draw for Brossoit if Lehner isn’t healthy enough to play.

Golden Knights’ Mark Stone: Scores Twice Before Injury

Stone scored twice in Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Lightning, but he was removed from the game in the second period after aggravating an undisclosed injury, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Per Granger’s report, head coach Pete DeBoer believes Stone’s injury is related to the one that kept him out of the lineup Sunday versus the Islanders. DeBoer also alluded to keeping Stone out of the third period Tuesday to avoid further injury giving the upcoming holiday break. It remains concerning that Stone can’t shake this particular issue. The 29-year-old winger has managed six goals, 17 assists and 39 shots on net through 19 appearances this season. For now, he can be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday’s scheduled game versus the Avalanche.

The IHL had established itself as the second top-level minor league circuit in North America, but folded in 2001 due to financial problems. The latter team transferred to the league from the mid-level in 2000. This situation lasted until the end of the 201415 season when the Norfolk team moved to San Diego and was replaced by another ECHL team with the same name.

The Utah Grizzlies suspended operations after the 200405 season . The Chicago Wolves , Houston Aeros , Milwaukee Admirals , and Grand Rapids Griffins have all won Calder Cup titles since joining the AHL from the IHL.
