When Will The Golden Globes 2022 Nominations Be Announced

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey’s Opening Monologue – 2021 Golden Globes

The nominations for the 79th Golden Globes are due to be revealed on December 13. In anticipation of studios refusing to submit films and TV shows for consideration, the HFPA recently sent a letter to the industry saying that submissions would no longer be required this year. As a result, expect to see all of 2021s biggest critical and commercial hits in contention, from Dune and Belfast to Squid Game and Succession.

So Are The Golden Globes 2022 Still Happening

Yes, but not in the format that weve become accustomed to. On October 11, a source confirmed to Variety that the HFPA plans to recognize the performances of 2021 to celebrate the great work of the industry this past year at the 79th annual Golden Globes, though how exactly that will be done is yet to be determined. Whatever happens, its unlikely that Hollywood heavyweights would want to be involved in any capacity, whether as hosts, presenters, or attendees.

How Can I Watch The Golden Globes

It’s not clear if there will be any sort of red carpet, but the preshow hosts are set to interview “some of the biggest names,” according to a news release. So maybe they’ll dress up for the interviews!

Golden Globes : King Richard Spencer House Of Gucci And More Gain Early Entry

As expected!

On Monday, The 2022 Golden Globes nominations were announced, with King Richard and The Power Of The Dog leading the race with multiple nominations apiece.

The Power Of The Dog competes with Belfast, CODA, Dune and King Richard in the Drama category. While Kristen and Gaga both received Best Actress nods for Spencer and House Of Gucci, their respective films received no other nominations.

The nominations come amid uncertainty as to who will be in attendance at the ceremony after Hollywood stars demanded a boycott due to the lack of inclusivity on the HFPA panel. Ahead of the announcement, Helen Hoehne, the HFPA President, addressed the situation, saying: ‘This has been a year of change and reflection worked tirelessly to be better. We also have 21 new members, the largest and most diverse in our history.’

Kristen Stewart earned a Best Actress nomination for her controversial role as Princess Diana in Spencer. She will go against Lady Gaga.

Spencer follows the breakdown of the royal’s high-profile, 15-year marriage to Prince Charles over three days during one of Diana’s final Christmases at the House of Windsor in their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England, 1991. While the film received mainly positive reviews, royal experts branded the film ‘cruel’ and ‘unnecessarily gratuitous’, saying the movie strips the late princess of her’ respect and dignity.

Golden Globes Announce Nominations To A Skeptical Hollywood

Golden Globes 2021 Fashion: See The Best Looks

NEW YORK After widespread criticism forced the organization that puts on the Golden Globes to lose its televised award show and overhaul its membership, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nevertheless went ahead announcing nominees for film and television awards on Monday despite a skeptical entertainment industry.

Just as its done for many years, the HFPA gathered reporters at the Beverly Hilton to announce its picks for the 79th Golden Globes. But this time, there was no nationally televised morning-show live spot or any immediate celebrity celebrations. Hollywood mostly shrugged.

The HFPA, which usually has a handful of movie stars make their announcement, turned instead to Snoop Dogg, who read the nominees behind sunglasses and a red hat during a live stream on the Globes YouTube page. The majority of studios, public relations firms and A-list talent havent engaged much this year with the group, which dropped its usual requirement that films be submitted for consideration. Critics have said its too soon for the HFPA to return to business as usual. Some would rather see the Globes be gone for good.

But the press association tried to maintain its perch in awards season on Monday, spreading nominations around to the likes of Will Smith , Kristen Stewart , West Side Story breakthrough Rachel Zegler, Leonardo DiCaprio , Denzel Washington , Ben Affleck and Lady Gaga .

Peacock Subscribers Can Watch The Golden Globes The Day After It Airs

If you don’t mind waiting a day to watch the show after it airs live, you can stream the Golden Globes for free through Peacock starting February 29. The show will be included with the ad-supported plan at no cost.

If you want even more content, you can sign up for the $5 a month Peacock Premium plan, or the $10 a month Peacock Premium Plus plan. The streaming service includes classic comedies like “Parks & Recreation” and “The Office,” along with movies such as “Kick-Ass” and “I Am Legend.”

You can find more information about Peacock’s pricing, shows, and movies in our full Peacock guide.

Nominees for the Golden Globes are spread across several categories for film and TV. You can see a full list of nominees here.

Best Picture nominees in the drama category include several movies you can stream right now, like Netflix’s “Mank” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” as well as Hulu’s “Nomadland” and Focus Features’ “Promising Young Woman.”

Meanwhile, Disney’s “Hamilton” and Hulu’s “Palm Springs” are among the contenders for Best Picture in the musical or comedy category. Disney also has two movies up for Golden Globes in the animated film category, including “Soul” and “Onward.”

The late Chadwick Boseman is up for an award for his work in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” and actress Maria Bakalova is nominated for her performance in “Borat 2.” And, when it comes to TV, HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” and Disney’s “The Mandalorian” are among the nominees in the drama category.

Who Votes For The Golden Globes Winners

Dont take this typically boozy awards show too seriously. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is an oft-criticized, small group of roughly 90 international journalists based in Southern California. However, the Globes broadcast has turned into a momentum builder for films leading into the Oscars, which this year will take place on April 25.

The HFPA has been under renewed attention with a recent Los Angeles Times investigation into the organization, highlighting that the voting membership does not include one Black member .

The investigation further revealed several HFPA voting members enjoyed a studio-funded lavish Paris adventure for the critically mixed Netflix series “Emily in Paris,” which garnered two surprise nominations.

The list of presenters includes: Awkwafina, Cynthia Erivo, Annie Mumolo, Joaquin Phoenix, Kristen Wiig, Renee Zellweger, Bryce Dallas Howard, Christopher Meloni, Rosie Perez, Christian Slater, Anthony Anderson, Tiffany Haddish, Kate Hudson, Margot Robbie, and Kenan Thompson.

Best Moments from the 2021 Golden Globes

The L.A. Times investigations also found the group had major gaps in racial diversity. During the televised ceremony, co-host Tina Fey called them out.

“There are no Black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press,” she announced with the cameras rolling. “I realize, HFPA, maybe you guys didn’t get the memo because your workplace is the back booth of a French McDonald’s, but you gotta change that.”

The backlash from Hollywood was swift.

NBC pulled the plug on televising the 2022 Golden Globes. Major studios, including Netflix, announced they’d no longer deal with the HFPA until changes were made.

Filmmakers Ava DuVernay and Shonda Rhimes and A-list celebrities Scarlett Johansson and Tom Cruise spoke out against the HFPA.

And more than 100 publicity agencies signed a joint letter demanding that the HFPA reform.

In the months since, the scandal-ridden trade association has rewritten its bylaws and added new outside advisors and board members.

“We were the first ones to say we need some fixing â and that fixing has been done and continues,” says German journalist Helen Hoehne, who was elected HFPA President in September after serving as its vice president. She says all the members were independently reviewed and reaccredited.

Live Streaming Services With Nbc

One of the cheapest live TV streaming options to watch the Golden Globes on is Sling TV. The Sling Blue plan costs $35 a month and offers 44 channels, including your local NBC station. New members can receive a three-day trial. If you don’t want a trial, you can opt for $10 off your first month instead.

Locast is another cheap streaming option with access to the Golden Globes. Locast is a non-profit streaming service with local channels, meaning you can watch networks like NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox without having to pay a dime.

Nbc Won’t Air 2022 Golden Globes In Rebuke To Hollywood Foreign Press Association

Still, Murphy says there’s always been criticism of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the small group of journalists from international media who vote on the winners each year. “They had power because there was a deal between the industry and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” she says. “They didn’t play by the same rules. They took gifts. They took free trips. They went on junkets paid for by the studio or the networks.”

But that deal finally broke down last year.

Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa sued the HFPA, saying she and other legitimate journalists were repeatedly barred from joining. She accused the group of having a “culture of corruption” and operating as a kind of cartel, ” the foreign entertainment reporting market.” That anti-trust lawsuit was dismissed, but she continues to appeal it.

Then days before the 2021 Golden Globes ceremony in February, the Los Angeles Times investigations that raised questions about how the HFPA operates. The stories recounted years of scandal, including various allegations that members have received perks from studios and producers in exchange for their votes. The HFPA has denied such allegations.

The paper reported the tax-exempt non-profit organization paid its 87 members more than a million dollars in recent years to serve on various committees.
