Its been nearly three decades since NBCs The Golden Girls ended its legendary run from 1985 to 1992, yet the timeless show endures, gaining new fans with each generation thanks to nonstop syndication marathons.
Soon, theyll have their very own fan convention to revel in all things GG at the first-everGolden-Con: Thank You for Being a Fan event.
The classic sitcom followed four badass retirees Rose Nylund , Blanche Devereaux , Dorothy Zbornak and Sophia Petrillo living together in a pastel-hued Miami home, deciding its better to face the ups, downs and many hilarious moments of aging together.
But fans no longer must wait for retirement to bring their Golden Girls dreams to life as its been announced that 2022 will mark the inaugural convention to celebrate the beloved series. Mark your calendars: Its going down April 22 through April 24 in Chicago.
Event producers Zack Hudson and Brad Balof announced this week that the event will feature appearances by guest stars, producers, and others directly connected with the show, although no names have yet been announced and ticket prices have yet to be determined.
This leaves one burning question: Will the golden guest of honor be there?

The famous actor had a very strange statement in her deal for the show. She asked to own every custom she had to wear. Her friends say that when NBCs sitcom ended, Rue had 13 closets filled with designer outfits. She also collected lots of souvenirs from the scenes and locations. It is believed that Rue was planning to give them away to the fans at some pointbut that only happened after her passing in 2010.

Everyone loves Sophia Petrillo, the Golden Girl played by Estelle Getty. Originally, Sophia was going to be a minor character in the show who would appear on episodes from time to time. However, when audiences watched the pilot episode, they overwhelmingly responded to Sophia. They loved her feisty personality and wise but sarcastic quips. So, the show’s writers decided to transform her character into a mainstay and make her one of the four Golden Girls. Sophia is Dorothy’s mother. In the pilot episode, it’s Sophia who places an ad for roommates on a grocery store bulletin board after her nursing home burns down. Exterior And Interior Sets
The house’s address was mentioned as being 6151 Richmond Street, Miami. The model used for exterior shots of the house from the third season through the end of the series was part of the backstage studio tour ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This façade, along with the Empty Nest house, sustained hurricane damage leading to Disney’s 2003 decision to bulldoze the houses of “Residential Street” and construct its Lights, Motors, Action!: Extreme Stunt Show attraction, later replaced byStar Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The façade was based on a real house at 245 N. Saltair Avenue in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California. Producers used this residence for exterior shots during the first two seasons. In 2020, it was put on sale for $3 million.
The show’s designer, Ed Stephenson, took inspiration from his time living in Florida to design a “Florida look” for The Golden Girls house set. The wooden accents, columns, and doors were painted to mimic bald cypress wood, popular in South Florida homes, with rattan furniture and tropical-printed upholstery chosen for the furniture.
