The Golden Knights who participated in the first practice after the holiday break were energetic, refreshed and eager to get back on the ice Tuesday in Los Angeles against the Kings.
The problem was that there just werent as many as Vegas would have liked.
The Golden Knights were without six regular players and their head coach Monday because of injuries and COVID-19 protocols, a week after having nearly a clean bill of virus health. They return to have action Tuesday after a week off, and the players who are there will look to carry over momentum from a strong finish to the seasons unofficial first half.
Whether its a day or two, every day matters for guys, whether youre going through injury or sickness, whatever it is, any break is good, defenseman Zach Whitecloud said. It came at a time when a lot of things were going on, obviously.

Coach Pete DeBoer and forward Brett Howden were added on Monday to the teams COVID protocol, joining defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and forward Evgenii Dadonov, who were included in the list last week and remain there.

Head coach Peter DeBoer has been forced to use new line combinations this season but that has led to some new discoveries. The combination of Marchessault, Roy, and Smith has performed well. Usually, those wingers are centered by William Karlsson but he is missing time with a broken foot and isnt expected back for a few weeks.
On defense, Nicolas Hague has had a bit of a breakout season and hasnt looked out of place at all despite playing a larger role. His continued development has been one of the bright spots of the year so far and the Golden Knights will be relying on him to continue his strong play.

The NHL announced that it has delayed the return to game action until December 28.

The League had planned to resume its schedule on Dec. 27, but in order to allow the League an adequate opportunity to analyze League-wide testing results and to assess Clubs readiness to play, the target date for resumption of game play will be pushed back an additional day. Teams will return to practice on Dec. 26 and it is expected that the League will provide an update on its return to play plans by the end of day on Sunday.
The Vegas Golden Knights were scheduled to take on the Colorado Avalanche at home on December 27, but their next game will now be in Los Angeles vs. the Kings on December 28. This is the second game in a row that has been postponed for the Knights, as they were originally going to face the Kings at home on December 23.
After playing the Kings in LA on the 28th, the Knights are scheduled to play the Anaheim Ducks at home for a New Years Eve matinee at 12:00 P.M. PT.
