Starbucks recently stated that they would be changing the new reward system in April. Stars will be rewarded by what you buy, not how often you visit. Those trying to reach gold status or maintain the gold status, will need to earn 300 stars/spend $150 to earn the title gold member rather than 30 visits. I Used To Be A Green Member
If you are Green level member prior to the launch of the new Starbucks® Rewards program, on August 16, 2019, you are fast-tracked to Gold level membership. Once you became a Gold level member, your Star balance would reset to zero and you would have to start accumulating Stars again in order to be eligible to redeem a Reward. You can now jump immediately into earning and redeeming Stars for Rewards.

The Starbucks Reward Card is one of the best loyalty cards going, and it’s completely free. If you collect points with your Reward Card every time you go to Starbucks, you’ll bag yourself a free drink every time you hit 150 stars!

What About More Expensive Stuff
Good question. While the new system is nice for people who don’t spend quite as much money at Starbucks , it does mean more expensive items require more stars. To get a handcrafted drink, hot breakfast, or yogurt parfait, you now need 150 stars to redeem a lunch sandwich or protein box, which used to be my go-to when I had a reward to use, you’ll need to have 200 stars.
TL:DR? You can no longer cash in on the most expensive thing in the store when you hit your reward, but you can earn rewards faster.

But did you know theres a fourth one?
Its a short sizean eight-ounce cup as opposed to talls 12 ounces.
A short size drink will set you back less than two bucks, which is less than the average three-dollar price on the regular menu.
Youll have to ask the barista about the smaller beverages. They dont usually put it on their menu board.
With a short drink, you can save about 15 percent but still get the same amount of caffeine. That means you still get your usual buzz but with fewer calories.

The actual gold card can cause some confusion. The root of that confusion is usually that people think they must have it to earn stars and/or think that the green level perks require the Gold card. In no particular order, here are few ways that Ive seen customers confused about the Gold card:
1. Do I have to use my Gold card?
No. There is NEVER a requirement to actually switch to the gold card. I have indeed watched this be a point of confusion many times. Oddly, many people seem to think that it is the actual gold card that earns you stars. This is not true. All of the card benefits that the customers receive are associated with the customers profile at Starbucks.com/card.
This means that the customer may earn stars with a mobile app, a braille card, an old black card, an old Shareholders card, a mini card, a card, a Chicago city card or any other city card, an Evolution Fresh card, the Twilight First and Battery card, or truly any another card the customer wants to use.
2. I just received my Gold card in the mail. Is there money already transferred on it?
3. Am I earning stars with my Gold card?
4. I have a Gold card. I use only my Gold card. Is it possible that I am NOT Gold, and NOT earning stars?

Warning Do Not Install This App Awful
This app is an absolute shambles. I was kicked out of my old app and had to reset my password. But on trying to reset my password, I kept getting an error message until I searched in the customer help to see that I should use a chrome browser to reset my password not safari! having actually got into the app I saw that stars have somehow changed to point but with no explanation as to why. I then queued up in a store to order to coffees. When I got to the front of the queue I had to top up my balance. Clicked on Apple Pay option to get a pop up message saying the app doesnt support that! Even though I had been using it previously!!! And no way to enter my card details either – Except by logging into the website. I had no cards with me so ended up leaving the coffee shop empty handed and embarrassed. This fails simply because it does not work and there was no communication to customers to inform them of the changes or make it clear what they had to do. Do not install this app!
