There are several reports which indicate that miners featured on the show are largely inexperienced. Furthermore, TV Overmind explained, Drama is created as they make mistakes which would be obvious to more seasoned miners and there is a powerful learning curve. And if the crew is so inexperienced, you really cant expect for their mining operations to profit immensely.
Disagreements On The Show
Throughout episodes of the show, you would often see some of the miners arguing with one another. As it turns out, even the fights are scripted. As Jimmy Dorsey has told Oregon Gold, They actually direct you into these situations. It became very real. That is why I actually got my ribs broke. There was a fightnot even a fightI was assaulted by Greg. He broke my ribs. That was very real, but it was also in the script for episode four which ended up being episode six.

Who Died On Gold Rush
James Harness, a former cast member of Gold Rush, is unfortunately no more. The former Gold Rush cast was featured in the show in the first two seasons.
Due to low productivity, he was kicked out of his team and forced to leave the show. Sadly, James was addicted to his pain medication.
He used to take medicine to relieve his pain from an injury he had suffered in a car accident years before. James died in 2014 after getting a stroke.
