Pure gold has 24 karats. Logically, it consists of 100% gold. You might find the inscription 750somewhere on an 18k gold ring. This means 18 karat gold only consists of 75% gold. The remaining 25% are different metal alloys that give more hardness to the gold.
Now, the chart on the right is what the relationship of gold and metal alloys looks like for different karat grades. While you can find gold jewelry with any amount of karat, the most common amounts are 10K, 14K, and 18K gold.

Mentally and emotionally, I feel good knowing that 14K gold chains have more pure gold in them.
Not only do 14K gold chains have higher gold purity, but they also provide enough strength and durability for every day wear.
But let’s keep it real. If 14K is over your budget, 10K gold chains are still real gold . From a price standpoint, 10K gold chains are more affordable, and you can be sure they are more durable than 14K gold.

The k next to all these numbers stands for karat. You may also see ct on jewelry made outside the United States. This reflects a different spelling, carat, but dont be confused.
You may be more used to seeing carats used to measure the weight of gemstones. But when it appears with this spelling on gold, the meaning is exactly the same as karat. Both measure the purity of the gold.
One karat is equal to one twenty-fourth of the whole. So if the metal in your ring was divided into 24 parts, the karat rating tells you how many of those would be pure gold.
With 10-karat gold, 10 parts out of every 24 will be pure gold. Thats the same as 41.7 percent. With 14-karat gold, its 14 parts out of 24, or 58.3 percent. And with 18-karat gold, its 18 parts, or 75 percent.
In other words, the higher the karat rating, the higher the proportion of pure gold in the jewelry.

K Gold Vs 14k Gold Hypoallergenic Nature
Allergies to pure gold are rare, so if you do have reactions to gold, its the other metals in the alloy that cause issues. These include metals commonly alloyed with gold, such as zinc and nickel.
