Jordan Brand’s annual holiday releases always offer another reason to get excited about the festive period, and this year is no different. For its Holiday 2020 capsule, Nike and Jordan have looked to the archives and revived elements and colorways of some seriously deep cut sneakers. One highlight of the 12-piece holiday capsule is the Nike Air Jordan 1 “Black Gold”, which released November 30. However, you can still get your hands on a pair by scrolling down.

Delving into the vault, Nike has taken inspiration from an extremely-hard-to-find Friends and Family AJ1 from the ’80s which got a wider release in 2003 as an Air Jordan 1 Mid. That AJ1 Mid, which also arrived in a similar black and gold, was one of the first to come dressed in glossy patent leather.

The Nike Air Jordan 1 “Black Gold” makes use of luxe-looking patent leather again, sticking with a gold Swoosh but bringing more of the shade via the shoe’s ankle collars. The iconic Air Jordan wings emblem also sits at the ankle section in gold.

StockX market data shows that the Holiday 2020 Nike Air Jordan 1 “Black Gold” is currently attracting an average sale price of $227. The 52-week high price for the sneaker reached $749 on the platform.

Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Black / Metallic Gold” (Patent): Review & On-Feet
  • Link Copied

While I could easily be describing myself, what Im really talking about is the Air Jordan 1. Since its arrival in 1985, weve seen it issued in so many colorways and telling so many stories that youre bound to see it loop back on itself now and then.

Nike and Jordan Brand are no strangers to dressing AJ1s in familiar colorways from both inside and outside of MJs signature line, as weve seen on more than one occasion this year.

And theres one more in store, for Jumpman final version of this silhouette for 2020, the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Metallic Gold.

The combination of black patent leather and metallic gold highlights is rare on the AJ1, but theres unquestionable heritage from the Jordan archives.

We saw a mid-cut version debut in 2003, while 10 years later a high-top edition arrived sporting a white midsole and gum outsole to break up the all-black look. In 2017 Jumpman dropped the AJ1 Gold Top 3, which featured more gold as well as a white tongue and toebox.

But black-and-gold trim comes from much deeper in the vault, to a limited run that even Jordan Brand itself acknowledges is elusive.

Inspired by that mysterious and exclusive shoe, the Metallic Gold is completely blacked out, save for the gold collar, Swooshes, Wings and tongue logos. The glossy patent upper is slick enough that you could rock them with a tuxedo if you had to.

Air Jordan 7/6 Retro ‘golden Moments Pack’

From the spring of 1991 through the summer of 1992, Michael Jordan was on an absolute tear. Winning his first NBA championship in June 1991, repeating the feat a year later and taking home his second Olympic Gold Medal in July 1992, Jordan had all the hardware one could win in a matter of 13 months.

In August 2012, Jordan Brand celebrated two decades of greatness with the Air Jordan Golden Moments Pack. Pairing the models Michael wore in 1991 and 1992, the Air Jordan 6 Retro and Air Jordan 7 Retro donned illustrious gold detailing as a bold homage to greatness.

Air Jordan 6/11 Retro Le Dmp ‘defining Moments Pack’

Michael Jordan established himself as a winner by taking home his first title in 1991, which paved the way for his first three-peat. After a brief retirement from the game of basketball, Jordan returned to do it all over again, winning his fourth title in 1996 that was followed by two more in consecutive years.

To commemorate this incredible accomplishment, Jordan Brand celebrated the beginning of both three-peats by updating the Air Jordan 6 and Air Jordan 11 in golden fashion. Dubbed the Defining Moments Pack, the models Jordan wore when winning in 91 and 96 came paired together in one package with championship gold accenting each classic.

Jordan 1 Retro Black Metallic Gold (2013)

A brand-new luxury edition of the Air Jordan 1 will be launched by Jordan Brand as part of their 2020 holiday lineup. The Air Jordan 1 continues to stun its audience with new colorways. Among its three siblings, its still the most famous silhouette within the six-time champion’s retro family. This time they have birthed the Air Jordan 1 Black Gold.

When the first photos of this black-and-gold, patent-leather pair emerged back in June, some suggested that a similar mid-top makeup that was launched back in 2003, the Air Jordan 1 Mid was immediately brought to mind. This edition holds the same patent-leather uppers and gilded Swooshes and Wings logos in touch. For a little extra dose of luxury pop, however they deviate with golden ankle collars to embellish its heightened collars.

This version of black-patent leather uppers contrasts with the Swooshes, ankle, and Wings emblem with gold patent-leather. Finally, round out the theme with a black-and-gold tongue tag and, black rubber-sole unit. The uppers are made entirely of shiny patent leather. The sneakers signature accents are on the forefoot, midfoot and heel, which are dressed in a tuxedo-like tone. However, for a luxurious metallic flair, the shoe’s signature gold accents arrive on the ball-and-wings emblem of the Swooshes, collar, and collar flap. The Nike Air tongue tag features an additional touch of gold, while gold contrast stitching on the black midsole completes the look.

Air Jordan 3 ‘black History Month’

In 1988, the Air Jordan 3 changed the game by bringing visible Air cushioning, elephant print trim, and Jumpman branding to Michael Jordans signature line. Designed by the great Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 3 carried Jordan through his first MVP trophy and second-straight Slam Dunk Contest title.

In 2011, the Air Jordan 3 Retro Black History Month revived the 88 favorite with lifestyle appeal and even more cultural cache. Dressing the upper in black nubuck and leather, gold branding, eyelets, and contrast stitching provide a sense of royalty to the archival classic with laser-etched trim thematically replacing the standard elephant print.

Air Jordan 7 Retro ‘olympic’ 2012

Michael Jordan ended 1992 with plenty of gold hardware. After fans across America became enamored with Michaels dominance in that springs NBA Finals, watchers around the world came to know his excellence in the Summer Olympics.

In 1992, Michael won it all in the Air Jordan 7. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released in various colorways, the Air Jordan 7 Olympic is what Jordan wore when leading the Dream Team to gold medal glory in Barcelona. Reseller OnlyLearn More

The Jordan 1 High OG Patent Black Gold is a clean new version of the legendary Air Jordan 1 silhouette that’s been a popular option for sneakerheads ever since 1985. As Michael Jordans first-ever signature shoe, the AJ1 was designed by Peter Moore and originally launched in high, mid and low-top versions, with all three still popular today!

Crafted from shiny patent leather, the uppers take on a mainly black look with gold details really making the design pop. Nikes Swoosh logo runs across both the lateral and medial sides, with other branding coming in the form of Nike Air logos at the tongue and the wings logo on the collar. Other notable features include a heavily padded ankle section and the signature perforated toe box.

Beneath the feet, the blacked-out rubber midsole unit conceals high-end Nike Air cushioning that makes these more than capable of enduring hours of daily wear. If youre looking for a fresh pair of daily beaters then these could just be the pair for you!

Tell Your Own Story With The Jordan Retro 1

The Nike Air Jordan wasnt the first signature shoe in the history of basketball footwear. It just feels that way. Because once fans got a look at Michael Jordans namesake shoe, it took flight off the shelves.

Originally photographed in the fall of 1984 wearing the Nike Air Ship, Jordan debuted his signature shoe for that seasons all-star game. He also showed us the bold Black/Red colorway in photos and commercials where Nike played off the early speculation that Jordan was facing fines for wearing a banned shoe, playfully obscuring the Air Jordan with black censor bars.
