Tip #: Avoiding Tangles

Creating the Ultimate Layered Necklace Look | How To | Etsy

Necklace tangles are inevitable, especially when you layer multiple at a time. But, we do have a handy tool called the Layered Necklace Detangler that makes it a whole lot easier to manage! Its a game changer for necklace layering. All you do is attach your necklaces to the detangler & go about your day! You can read more in our handy article we wrote about How to Keep Your Necklaces from Tangling.

We also have some other tips that will help necklaces from tangling so much:

  • Unclasp the necklace and dangle it from one side to get all the twists out. This will ensure that the necklace doesn’t already have twists on its own and tangle even more.
  • Put on daintier necklaces first, and then chunky necklaces. The chunkier chains will stay in place, and they’ll also help weigh down the daintier chains.
  • Use necklaces with different chains or materials. Different chains/materials won’t tangle as much as necklaces with the same chain.
  • Mix chunky + dainty. Dainty necklaces tend to tangle less with chunkier chains, and more so with other dainty necklaces.

Can You Mix Metals When Layering Necklaces

Mixing metals is definitely on the increase, style-wise. While keeping the same metal throughout is quite classic and old school, there is a certain je ne sais quoi that mixing metals gives to an outfit.

Most of you will be new to mixing metals. The easiest is silver and gold. Try a gold chain with a silver pendant or charm and build it out from there!

Gold Necklace Layer Combo Ideas:

Gold Necklace Layering Idea 1

Notice all the scales of this gold necklace layering idea. You have the super chunky gold chain that fits just around your neck with two finer necklaces hanging lower down your chest. Also, notice the different types of chains we have, and how they all create a different overall silhouette and shape- these slight variations are key. The raw pearls are a nice touch and are a very trendy item right now.

Gold Necklace Layering Idea 2

This gold necklace combo idea has a more dainty approach. The scales only vary slightly with each necklace but each necklace hits a different part of your chest/neck and each necklace has a different texture/style of chain. Adding the dainty, and slightly colorful beads is an easy way to make this gold layering stack even more on-trend, and great for warmer seasons like summer to add a bit of flirtiness to your outfit.

Gold Necklace Layering Idea 3

Personally, I think everyone needs a chunky gold link necklace. It adds some weight and drama to your gold necklace stack. This is a great example of using texture to elevate your gold necklace layering. Notice the gem texture in the medium link necklace and the colorful beads in the customized necklace. Both of these textures help evenly distribute the attention and balance out the chunkier link necklace.

Choose The Right Number Of Necklaces To Layer

While you absolutely can create a gorgeous layered look with only two fine gold layered necklaces in white gold or yellow gold, this style is much more impactful when you choose three or more to wear together. If you want to experiment with two layered necklaces, choose a chunkier chain of 16 to 20 inches, and choose an eye catching pendant to wear on a chain which is about 2 or 3 inches longer. The more necklaces you incorporate into your look, the more versatility you will have to switch things up and keep them interesting but most AS29 wearers like to choose between 2 and 4 necklaces to layer.

Why stop at one necklace when you can curate your very own collection by mastering the art of layering?

Both eclectic and with a nod to bohemianism, layering unexpected pairings such as a dainty gold shell with a fine gold chain with a nostalgic pendant, can lead to a delightful vintage-inspired mash-up perfect for a well-traveled nonchalant summer look. There is no doubt this is a particularly persistent trend, and some of us will remember the pain of tangled chains from the first time around. Dont despair, for learning how to experiment with different lengths and contrasts is all part of the fun. Firstly, carefully measure your desired length of each necklace so that each chain sits neatly above or just below the other in a cascade effect. It is imperative to look carefully at differing weights and textures of chain: explore cable, rope, snake, bead, and differing link lengths. Not only will this reduce the risk of tangling but it will give a more interesting contrast on the neckline. Odd numbers tend to work better than even, and dont be afraid to mix materials.

How To Layer Gold Necklaces Like A Fashionista

Every day when I’m getting dressed, jewelry becomes the final touch. I often find myself putting on one necklace, and then another, and another and another, then taking one off, then switching one out, then taking them all off in an attempt to start from scratch, then eventually giving up. I’ll be the first one to admit it: Learning how to layer gold necklaces is no easy feat.

Luckily, I spoke to the queen of necklace layering â Alexandra Smith, the founder of jewelry line Alexandra Phillip â about how, exactly to layer the right way. Her line is full of simple, elegant gold pieces that can be worn separately, but are really meant to be worn together. The collection was inspired by the belief that when a woman wears jewelry that makes her feel good, it gives her confidence, and shows in the way she carries herself, and the pieces are designed to make every woman feel effortlessly stylish and enable her to express her best self.

Because of this, Smith is a firm believer in the idea that wearing jewelry in interesting ways is a form of self expression. The beauty of layering is that it adds a unique touch to otherwise simple pieces. “It allows each woman to express her personal style,” Smith tells me. “No two woman will wear the same necklaces the same way.”

Here are her tips on the best ways to layer necklaces, complete with some gorgeous pictures from her new collection.

How To Layer Gold Jewellery

I asked two of my favourite female jewellery designers for their tips on how to nail the layering trend this season. For Roxanne of Roxanne First, its all about more is more.

I think its a great opportunity to layer all kinds of necklaces, from beads to fine gold chains and chunkier statement pieces. Summer is great as we arent bundled up in jumpers so our décolletage is always on show! Adding beads allows you to add some colour! Our personalisation pieces are brilliant to layer, and ideally youd want a few size options to layer . All in all, its about having some fun, mixing and matching textures and golds, she says.

Meanwhile, Rosh of Alighieri recommends mixing and matching different textures, I always wear four to five necklaces, all with different chains that can elevate a t-shirt and jeans, and really allow you to tell a unique story. The more different the chains, the better. At the moment, Im wearing lots of gold charms and pearls.

And the same goes with other kinds of jewellery, whether youre into rings, earrings or bracelets. Shop my edit of the best gold jewellery you can buy now, whether to be worn alone or layered.

Whether you’re going out for the evening or putting together a mix of delicate layered gold necklaces that you never take off, you’ll find it empowering to create new ways to layer and wear them

We love layering short gold necklaces together. It’s a modern look that can be worn from day to night. Find your favorite short charm necklaces and locket necklaces and pair them together in a unique way. You can also use a chain like our DYO chain, which allows you to mix and match and switch out different charms and lockets daily. This 18k gold chain looks great paired with other delicate gold necklaces, and makes a big statement when layered short with a blouse, tank, dress, or even a sweatshirt.

We also often layer gold necklaces of varying lengths, to really make a statement. Start with a short gold neckace and then keep adding until you feel the look is complete. A longer gold chain with detail, like our Sun, Moon and Stars chain, looks terrific layered over just about any combination of gold necklaces. Long layers of necklaces work well for an evening out or a dressed up occasion, but can also be easily worn over a blouse or turtleneck for a day at the office.

Ive always been conscious of not over accessorizing. Coco Chanel said, Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off. However, I dont think this rule applies right now because the trend is to add more necklaces, rather than take them away.

Even though layering necklaces can make a statement in an outfit, this trend also feels minimalistic to me. I like to pair my layered necklaces with some mini pavé hoop earrings.

If you can master layering necklaces, you can easily make any outfit look chic, even a simple t-shirt or v-neck. Or a loungewear set, like Im wearing throughout this post.

Mix And Match For A Personalised Layered Necklace Look

AS29 offers a gorgeous range of 18k gold jewellery and diamond necklaces for a luxurious, elevated layered necklace look. Chains come in all shapes and sizes, from dainty curb chains to attention-grabbing heavy styles which are edgy and modern. They say variety is the spice of life, and this is definitely true when choosing stacked necklaces to complete an outfit. As well as choosing from stunning shades of gold, consider using a variety of textures to keep things interesting.

Different chain thicknesses will give a varied and dynamic appearance switch things up by adding a heavier chain or two below your finer, plain necklaces for added drama. Each type of fine gold chain catches the light differently and sparkles in a unique way so this is a really simple way to give your look textural interest.

What Necklaces To Pair With Different Necklines

With crew neck tops dont be afraid to add a longer necklace to the mix. I shy away from chokers because they run right along the neckline of the top- so I do a mid-length necklace that is about 17 long like this one, and then I add a longer necklace like this one to balance it out and add interest. A crew neck can feel a little plain, so adding a tiny pop of gold that hangs lower is a perfect polishing effect to a minimal crew neck.

V-neck tops are my favorite tops to style necklaces with. They lend themselves to really make the necklace the focal point. Im always layering, so I usually opt for a shorter choker necklace, and then a mid-length necklace like my gold initial necklace or a necklace with a really pretty charm. You can also add a mid-length necklace with a larger design here without it looking too over styled, because the V-neck leaves plenty of room on your neck for that added visual interest.

I love a minimalist look with necklaces when styling off the shoulder or strapless tops. I think my favorite would be just a simple dainty choker like this itty bitty heart choker Ive been wearing constantly. The daintier the better with this kind of neckline because I love keeping the chest, shoulders, and clavicle the focal point. . Adding a simple mid-length necklace works great too!
