Why Do Refiners Use Fire To Purify Gold
Fire is the best way to purify gold. When all the impurities are gone, you have 24-karat gold the most valuable grade! One day, Jesus spoke of the value God places on his children. He said, Dont be afraid of those who want to kill your body they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What is the price of two sparrows one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. The very hairs on your head are all numbered. So dont be afraid you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Jesus alerts his followers that, yes, some will go through the fire of testing. But they need not fear the test it is designed only to burn away impurities. What remains is the pure gold that is of great value to God. Jesus also says we need not fear the fire because God, the refiner, carefully watches the process so closely that He keeps track of the exact number of hairs on our heads. Gods children are extremely valuable to Him. That old hymn says it well, When thru fiery trials your pathway shall lie, my grace all-sufficient shall be your supply. The flame shall not hurt youI only design your dross to consume, your gold to refine. God looks out for His children because they are extremely valuable to Him.
Dispose Of Hazardous Wastes Properly
In this step, package your etching solution in a bottle with a very tight cap . Label the bottle and make sure it clearly says HAZARDOUS, DO NOT DRINK OR OPEN in huge letters all over the bottle. Tape the cap with masking tape so people, if they get ahold of it, don’t open it. Also, keep away from anyone else, especially young children, or any other bottles of the same kind.
Also, take PCBs and put them in a plastic bag and put into trash. These are fine to put in the trash if you have followed previous step of soaking them in a cup of water. If not, please soak in water before disposing.
After properly packaging, take to your nearest hazardous waste processing facility or H-MRF. These facilities are only by appointment and sometimes, depending on where you live, charge a fee .
DO NOT POUR DOWN SINK OR TOILET. YOU MUST FOLLOW THE STEPS ABOVE, OR RISK BREAKING LAWS WITH HARSH FINES AND EVEN JAIL TIME IF YOU ARE CAUGHT.
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Aqua Regia
Aqua Regia is a well-known process for obtaining gold in its pure form. And the chemical reactions involved in this procedure are effective. The chemicals are available everywhere and not too expensive. However, the main disadvantage of this procedure is that permissions from the local authorities may be needed. This is because some of the chemical reactions may produce by-products that could have some destructive effects on the environment. This include toxic fumes and chemical by-products that may not be good for human health.

How To Calculate The Value Of Gold Scrap
As we talked about before, scrap gold comes from many different sources, and its quality is different according to the industry. Gold from computers, electronic devices, dental scrap, implants, and jewelry all have a variable karat, depending on the object and the composition.
If you have any gold to refine and want to know its estimated value before sending it in, here we give you a couple of resources that can help you.
At the time of sending, if you know the purity of the scrap gold you have, you could use our scrap gold calculator and get a free estimation, and check the information here where we explain how easy it is to use the calculator. This way, you will get an estimation of the value of your material, with live scrap gold prices. Remember that it is just an estimation, providing a close to exact calculation, but then you need to consider that the gold refinery you use will have different charge fees. Depending on the volume of gold scrap, gold refineries charge different percentages or flat fees.
If you generate scrap gold, we could send you a container so that you can start recycling your gold with us.
The reality is that if you generate any type of scrap gold, it is possible that you could be adding other types of metals that are also valuable. Please connect with one of our experts to find out if your industry uses other types of precious metals and what we could do for you.
Warning: Hazardous Chemicals Used
Although this method of gold extraction calls for household chemicals, that doesn’t mean they are safe. Please be advised that you must handle these chemicals with care. Goggles, gloves, glass apparatus and a very well ventilated room with a fume hood or an outside area is highly recommended.
After this experiment is over, I will show you how to properly dispose of the chemicals. You should know before starting this experiment, you must set up an appointment with a hazardous waste processing facility or H-MRF.
DO NOT POUR DOWN SINK OR TOILET. YOU MUST FOLLOW THE STEPS ABOVE, OR RISK BREAKING LAWS WITH HARSH FINES AND EVEN JAIL TIME IF YOU ARE CAUGHT.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL.
If you have any question regarding the safety of this experiment, please ask me through comments or a PM before performing any of this experiment.

How Is Gold Refined
Did you know that more than 190,040 tonnes of gold have been mined through human history? There are a lot of different processes that gold goes through after it is mined and before it reaches us, be it as jewellery, bars, coins or any of these ways gold is used in everyday life. The first step is refining.
What Is A Gold Refinery
A gold refinery is the place where gold is separated from other metals or residues. In other words, it is where it gets refined. These companies generally work with scrap precious metals, and they recycle them through the process of refining, separating them into their pure forms, and repurposing them.

Where To Refine Your Scrap Gold Choosing The Best Gold Refinery
The process of refining gold is delicate and should be done by an experienced precious metal refinery. If you want to get the highest returns on your scrap gold, you should research for the best gold refinery, but what should you look for?
First, make sure you choose a direct gold refiner, because by cutting off the middleman, you will get higher returns. A middleman will take up to 70% of the value of the gold scrap from you.
Second, find out what their refining process is. At Core Scientific, we use the latest technologies and techniques. We have a page where we explain our process here.
Third, look for transparency. Many refineries will hide the information, like hiding parts of the assay report, or not providing weights after receiving your material. At Core Scientific, we provide you a customer portal available 24/7 online where you can verify the weights, see pictures of your material, follow our process, access full assay reports, and track settlements.
Fourth, and the last thing: credibility. We are an INC 5,000 company, one of the fastest private growing companies in the US. We are the leader in precious metal refining in North America, and we have tons of great reviews! We have a laboratory in-house and specialize in gold refining.

You Sell Your Jewelry
Well use jewelry as the example here, although refiners use the process for other items as well. The same steps would also apply to things like gold coins or other things that are made mostly or entirely of gold.
Whatever the item in question is, the process begins when you decide you no longer want or need it and opt to sell it.
The Art And Science Of Refining Gold At Home
A quick tutorial in DIY chemistry.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that things like the process of refining gold are complex and complicated procedures that can only be performed in special labs and factories by seasoned and experienced professionals with a wealth of custom equipment. And if you want to do it well, fast, and in great volume, that’s probably accurate. But, in a pinch, you totally could refine some gold in your own home. It’s not even that hard.
The process, as illustrated and described in a fantastic video from Cody’s Lab, is one you might be vaguely familiar with if you paid any attention in chemistry. Simply put, the trick to refining gold is to dissolve impure gold in acid such that all the impurities fall out, and then to pull the pure gold back out of your acid solution. Practically, the process is a little bit more involved, but I’ll let Cody explain the nitty gritty details:
This is just the first part of Cody’s series on gold refinement, the second of which will repeat the process for actual jewelry. And if you can’t wait for more science, theCody’s Lab backlog includes all sorts of fun stuff like pulling the lead out of lead paint and turning urine into gunpowder. You probably shouldn’t try any of this at home, even thought this gold refinery process actually doesn’t see TOO wildly dangerous. But it’s much easier and safer to sit back, watch an expert at work, and wish that you had paid more attention in chemistry class.

Importance Of Refining Gold
You may have asked yourself if gold is already pure enough from the mines, cant I just wash and use it? Why the thorough refining process? I will tell you why you need to refine gold, even when it is scrap gold.
You may be surprised to know that not all gold jewelry is made of pure gold. Pure gold is soft so it breaks easily.
Because of this, jewelers have to strengthen to be able to mould it into the shapes they want. Therefore, they add other metals to make it strong. Such metals include silver, platinum and even copper.
To remove the extra metal, a refiner has to wash it to be able to separate the pure gold from other metals.
Refining Platinum Palladium And Rhodium
- Do you have minimums on PGMs?
- Yes. We require that the pure platinum contained in the lot have a minimum value of $5,000. Lots having less value are not accepted.
- What are your fees?
- For Platinum, the fee is 10% on lots with gross weight less than 10 ounces and 5% on lots greater than 10 ounces gross weight. For Palladium, the fee is 15%. For Rhodium, the fee is 20%. For more information, view our Fee schedule.
- What is the turn-around time?
- All PGMs can be processed in approximately 7 business days.
- Do you handle catalytic converters?
- No. The metal content is usually very low grade. The return value is minimal after the extensive refining process
- Do you accept Rhodium Plating Solution?
- No. This is a cyanide-based solution that is illegal to transport. There is little value to the solution after the expensive processing needed to reclaim the metal.

A Little Bit Of Gold History
Gold has been a treasured mineral since its first discovery, which happened in many different cultures all over the world. But near 4000 BC the smelting process was created and gold started to take many different shapes. The oldest gold artifacts made their appearance during this millennium in Mesopotamia.
But then Egyptians took charge and gold became a great part of their culture. They extracted gold at the banks of rivers through the sedimentation process, and archeological evidence shows refining and mechanical goldwork. The gold particles found in the sand were purified by a melting process and then molded, mostly into jewelry and idols they prayed to. Around 2000 BC Egyptians learned to purify alloys with salt to remove silver and get pure gold. This process is now called gold parting, and it is still used because gold and silver are often extracted together.
These techniques later arrived at the Roman empire and were passed to the European cultures, who kept developing them. With the discovery of the Americas, new gold sources were found and more industrial processes were created.
The truth is that gold refining still uses some of the oldest techniques, enhanced. The melting process is still similar, and the fire assay, which is used to determine gold purity and is the standard of the industry, was invented in 1350 BC by the Babylonians.
Did you know that todays consumption of gold in the world is about 50% in jewelry, 40% in investments, and 10% in the industry?

Refining Gold Jewelry Scraps
When questions arise about manufacturing quality gold jewelry, manufacturers are eager to talk shop with their peers and industry experts. They want to know if they are using the right alloy for a specific application, casting at the appropriate times and temperatures, and annealing properly when work hardening a piece.
Rarely, though, does the conversation turn to refining, an area of jewelry manufacturing that poses more questions than answers in many manufacturers minds. Refining is a practice that must be done precisely and methodically to ensure the full recovery of gold, as well as an end product that is free of impurities, which can lead to quality problems when the metal is reused in production.
But refining doesnt have to be a mystery to manufacturers. There are several methods commonly used to recover metal. Some operations are suitable for use by manufacturers and jewelers who wish to refine in-house, while others are designed for commercial refiners who handle large lots. The following are the most common methods used in the jewelry and gold refining industries.
How To Extract Gold From The Smelting
Ratio Chemical 1:1
Fill nitric acid into clean water. Wait for 2 minutes for chemical substance mixed together.
Fill nitric acid into gold
Boil nitric acid with 70-90 degree Celsius.
Boil until no air bubbles. Nitric acid to dissolve the metal completely. Nitric acid solvent is not good. Powder sediments by boiling with nitric acid is gold.
Fill Nitric acid into gold
Method empirically surely that nitric acid corrodes metal out. Lump of gold break down into a powder and it did not air bubbles from the reaction of Nitric acid.
Surley that nitric acid corrodes metal out. Then pour some nitric acid out but be careful gold dregs flow with nitric acid or percolate only gold dregs.
Cleaning Powder gold of nitric acid. Powder gold boiled with clean water for 10-15 minutes, temperatures 70-900C
This is dry gold dregs.
When the water dries out, slowly pour the gold powder into a crucible
Given some heat to gold power but use low heater.
Fill little borax for beautiful and shine. Then scoop gold out.
Scoop gold out from crucible when it coagulated. Suddenly fill in distilled water. Because of if gold lost heat, gold will adhere with the crucible.
If you use electric crucible or ceramic crucible, when gold was melt pour into the block.
Scrap gold 5 grams can be gold 2.7 grams
A high percentage of gold is round and glossy. This pure of gold is 98.4%. If you want gold cleaner, you can boil with nitric acid about 10-20 minutes.

The Refiner Separates The Gold And Lead
Once everything has cooled down, the refiner removes the lead button and places it in a porous cup known as a cupel. The refiner will then heat this in a cupellation furnace. When the cupel is heated, the lead seeps out through the porous holes in the cupel, leaving behind just the gold in a bead-like shape. This bead of gold is known as the prill. To separate the gold from the silver, the refiner places the gold bead in nitric acid or a combination of hydrochloric and nitric acids.
