If you’d like to see if you qualify, or estimate the amount of your GSS II, you can go to the Franchise Tax Board estimator. Note that some of the payment amounts change depending on whether you received GSS I, whether you have an SSN or ITIN and if you are married filing separately.

Seniors And People With Disabilities Who Receive Ssi Will Receive One

The Golden State Grant is part of Californias recent COVID-19 relief bill and provides direct aid to those most impacted by the pandemic. Paper checks are being mailed out to SSI/SSP recipients on a rolling basis starting the week of May 24, 2021.

Financial Burden Can Fall To Caretakers

Sydney Chandler manages the finances and healthcare of her cousin, Chris Batiste, who is paralyzed. Batiste breathes through an apparatus and communicates with Chandler through a laptop, blinks and head movements.

Chandler, who is a Los Angeles-based writer, said she was livid to learn that SSDI recipients were left out of the state stimulus. To her, it was just another obstacle in the arbitrary and bureaucratic maze that people with disabilities face in trying to attain a liveable income.

Caretakers often carry a significant financial burden. Batiste receives $975 per month in SSDI, and Chandler said she contributes over $1,000 more each month to help cover his rent and full-time nursing.

If it wasnt for me, he would be one of the homeless, Chandler said, and youre telling me that you couldnt set up a portal for SSDI to input their information?

California Sends Additional Stimulus To Families Left Out Of Federal Stimulus Program

Stimulus Payments for SSI Recipients and More...

The IRS sent out three rounds of stimulus payments to Americans to help them stay afloat during the covid-19 induced economic crisis. To be eligible for the full amount of these payments, taxpayers had to have a Social Security Number and an annual income of less than $75,000. Above that amount the payments phased out until a filer didnt qualify for any stimulus money.

Taxpayers who report their taxes using an ITIN, or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number were not eligible for the federal stimulus check program. Certain nonresident and resident aliens who cant get a Social Security Number but live or work in the US may be able to get an ITIN for tax purposes.

The first round of Golden State Stimulusincluded payments of either $600 or $1,200 to eligible California residents who file with an ITIN. In the second round those same taxpayers will receive a another $1,000 if they claimed a dependent on their 2020 tax return. Those that didnt claim a dependent are not eligible for any new payment in the second Golden State Stimulus.

A Fourth Stimulus Check Is Coming For Some Workers

In September, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that a fourth stimulus check payment is coming for some Americans. Meatpacking workers, farmworkers, and grocery employees who were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic will be eligible to receive grants of up to $600 per person. The funds will come from a $700 million program authorized to assist workers in these industries.

It isn’t clear how the funds would be distributed, although up to $20 million of it’s set aside from employees in grocery stores. The financing was initially approved under the American Rescue Plan Act, which the Biden administration signed into law in March. However, the payment this time is expected to come from state agencies and tribal governments instead of the federal government.

SSDI recipients not automatically getting Golden State Stimulus

In February 2021, California lawmakers approved Governor Newsoms Golden State Stimulus program to send $600 payments to about 5.7 million of Californias lowest-income workers, with extra help for undocumented workers who file taxes.

This became known as Golden State Stimulus I.

In May 2021, Governor Newsom proposed sending the stimulus payments to Californias middle class, too.

California lawmakers approved the plan in late June 2021.

Under the expansion, taxpayers earning as much as $75,000 a year qualify.

Under the Golden State Stimulus II program:

Eligible Californians will receive a payment of $600, and an extra $500 if they claimed at least one dependent on their 2020 taxes, bringing the total maximum amount to $1,100.

However, some recipients of the first Golden State Stimulus payment may also qualify for an additional payment of $500 if they previously claimed a dependent.

Families with at least one dependent get a $500 boost, which increases to $1,000 if they are undocumented and file taxes.

According to Gov. Gavin Newsoms administration, two out of every three Californians are eligible for a share of $12 billion in Golden State Stimulus payments.

Heres who is eligible for Golden State Stimulus I and Golden State Stimulus II.

The California Franchise Tax Board will send payments based on a filer’s 2020 tax return. In order to receive a check, a tax return must be filed, regardless if a person is required or not to submit one. To receive a check, the state tax authority must receive a return by 15 October 2021.

Californians who havent filed a tax return yet can expect extra wait times before they will receive their payment. The Franchise Tax Board says those who filed after August 20, 2021 and receive their tax refund via direct deposit, should allow up to 45 days for 2020 tax returns to be processed. Tax returns that are processed after the scheduled ZIP code payment will have to wait at least 60 days to receive their Golden State Stimulus check. In both cases some returns may take longer to process delaying payment further.
