The Golden Palace Was Set To Be Renewed
Despite low ratings, The Golden Palace was a with network executives. As White explained, By the end of the season, while CBS had not given us a firm pickup yet, they were most reassuring. They told Paul and Tony they were something like 96 percent sure of renewing.
According to IMDB.com, despite promises of a second season, the network cancelled the show at the last minute. The decision came as a shock to the cast and crew. By the end of May, the long-awaited new fall schedule was announced -and we werent on it, White recalled. Tony said he had been told, for what it was worth, that we were listed on the schedule until the night before the announcement, but in countering some move by one of the other networks, we didnt make the cut.

Opening Shot: Dorothy Zbornak has gotten married and moved out of the Miami home she shared with her mother, Sophia Petrillo and friends Blanche Devereaux and Rose Nylund . Now, movers are coming to move the other three women out.
The Gist: Why are they moving out? Because Blanche convinced Rose and Sophia to invest in a Miami hotel called The Golden Palace. Rose starts to get nervous, because my whole life is here, but Blanche tells her that this is an exciting fresh start. And besides, with all the people going through the house , they might as well have been running a hotel. As the three women sit on the wicker-and-coral-fabric couch, the movers pick them and the couch up and move them out.
At the hotel, the women walk in and are introduced to the manager, Roland Wilson . Hes got a foster son, Oliver Webb , living with him at the hotel Oliver is afraid that the new owners, whom Roland think own a successful lodging chain, will kick him out.
But Roland isnt the only one surprised after he meets the trio. They find out that hes pretty much the only person doing anything in the hotel. The only other full-time staff is the new cook, Chuy Castillos , who ends up quitting because Sophia insists that all meals will be Italian dishes. Thats because the old owners fired everyone else to make it look like theyre turning a profit. In fact, if they dont make their monthly note in a week, the three of them will lose the place and be broke.

Just ahead of Betty Whites 100th Birthday, Disney has announced that The Golden Girls spin-off series, The Golden Palace is coming to Hulu on Monday 10th January 2022.
Rose, Blanche and Sophia are where we last left them, in the living room of the house they shared for seven years. But now, they are watching movers as they prepare to leave their comfortable home for a new life as managers of an art deco hotel in South Miami Beach called The Golden Palace.
This series stars Betty White, Rue McClanahan, Estelle Getty, Don Cheadle and Cheech Marin. The show was created by Susan Harris.
The Golden Palace was originally released in 1992 and only ran for a single season of 24 episodes.

Personal Life And Death
Gold’s first marriage was to Vanessa Gold, with whom he had three daughters, Emily, Victoria and Olivia.
In the early 1980s, Gold was engaged to singer this ended shortly after the completion of Larson’s 1982 album All Dressed Up and No Place to Go, which Gold produced.
He later married Leslie Kogan who manages his musical legacy.
Although Gold put personal references in the lyrics to “Lonely Boy” , he said in an interview with author that the song was not autobiographical: “Maybe it was a mistake to do that, but I simply put in those details because it was convenient. I hadn’t been a lonely boy at all — I’d had a very happy childhood.”
Gold was diagnosed with and responded well to treatment, but on June 3, 2011, he died in his sleep from what is suspected to have been heart failure at age 59 in Los Angeles.
